Scenario Loading Times
Hi everyone
Just wondered what the average loading time should be for scenarios.
Appreciate it would depend on the route complexity etc, but I sometimes wait for maybe 10 mins for the loading to take place.
Is this normal?
Many thanks for any advice

Re: Scenario Loading Times
Hi,
It really depends on what PC you're using, the route involved and the scenario.
For me, (obviously) larger routes take longer to load. Larger seems mostly to be more track than necessarily bigger area or more assets.
A PC with a 10Krpm drive, or an SSD, will load somewhat faster than a slower PC, as will a PC with a faster CPU or more RAM. However, if you look at the stats while loading, a fast PC doesn't max these out: it's unclear to me what the hardware factors are.
Finally, some scenarios are more complex than others.
So. Is 10 mins unusual? well for me on my old laptop, no. For my fast desktop, yes.
Any help?
Ruth

Re: Scenario Loading Times
Yes that does help a little.
My system is a 3 Ghz Intel processor with 4 gb memory running Windows 7 32 bit.
I would think that my graphics card is a little lacking though - a GeForce 8400 GS
Appreciate the assistance
Many thanks
Kevin

Re: Scenario Loading Times
What family the CPU is also has a big bearing on performance--- a 3Ghz Celeron is no match for a 2Ghz Core 2 Duo for example. The 8400 CPU is definately weak, offering a bandwidth of about 6GB/s which is definately going to slow things down---the figure of 50GB/s has been bandied about as what you need to be able to run the game with all the features such as shadows enabled.acftus wrote:My system is a 3 Ghz Intel processor.....
Re: Scenario Loading Times
Well the detail in Control Panel states Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00 Ghz
Not sure if that's any good!!!!!!!

Re: Scenario Loading Times
An Intel P4 is a fairly old processor family, and though some of the last built were pretty powerful for single core, I think they were often slightly higher clock than 3 - 3.2 or 3.4, so I suspect yours is an older one.
I'd agree the 8400gs is a lower spec gpu, it's not particularly relevant to loading times, as far as I know.
I would say your pc is underpowered though and that's why it's taking a while to load.
Not sure whether you want to change the hardware or not... but if you haven't already I'd suggest looking into configuring the /3GB switch to Windows. It might help...

Re: Scenario Loading Times
Yeah, I agree with Ruth there, there's a long thread about the 3GB switch at http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 4&t=120867, though you wouldn't think so from the title.

Many thanks Ruth for the advice
Computer specs change so quick these days, it's a job to keep up.
I'll look at the thread and see if that helps
A great help
Thanks one and all

Well I myself have an upgrade cycle of about every 3 years. From the looks of it your pc is from around 2003 so when you get chance I would upgrade and reap the benefits of having a nice system for railworks but from the looks of it the CPU is what's slowing your loading.
PC Spec: i9 10900k, 32GB DDR4 3200 RAM, GTX 980ti, 1TB NVME SSD

Re: Scenario Loading Times
My pc is an intel Q series quad core from a couple of years ago with 4GB ram and an amd 4350 (yes really) card in it, but with tsx enabled I am still loading scenarios on the WCML in about 4 mins. The in-game performance with all sliders maxed out is somewhat stuttery and rarely above the teens in frame rate, but livable until I can afford to upgrade the video card.
