Cab View?

Hi all,
Just purchased this game yesterday but is there any way of zooming out when in the cab view? At the moment I am in a DMU and struggling to drive without the track monitor as I cant see the cab controls properly unless I move the mouse around which then means I cant see outside properly.
Cheers

It can be altered by
editing the cabcamera.bin file for the relevant locomotive so that the position is shifted away from the driver's eye position towards the back of the cab and you can see everything. It's not a good idea to actually do this, because in many cabs the 3D controls cannot be used reliably by the mouse outside of the proper cabview position so it's only really useful for watching the controls as opposed to using them.
You also need to keep in mind that the cab camera positions are realistic as they are, a real train driver sits in such a position that the track ahead is front and centre in their view and the viewing angle out of the windscreen is maximised, not in such a position that the controls are directly ahead. If you want to see the controls you can look down just like a real driver would if they needed to see them for some reason. This is a lot more realistic than changing the view so it is placed hard up against back of the cab where the driver would need go go gadget arms to operate the controls.
You can still operate it using the keyboard, which should allow you to do it using peripheral vision or without looking at all once you know the controls, which is an appropriate approximation of real life. If an approximation is not enough for you, there's also the RailDriver controller which is available for slightly more authentic operation without needing to look at the controls, but because it pretty well has a monopoly in the tiny market for PC train controllers, it's quite an expensive piece of kit.

Hello Daniel, you want to read this thread, particularly, the area covered with moving the cab cameras around in locomotives, I'm sure you can apply the same to a DMU, or, EMU drivers seat and vision.

Thanks fr the replies, it does give stuff to think about.
I know from real life experience that as a driver you can obviously feel what step the throttle or brake is in or you can just glance your eyes to the desired controls/dials without moving ones head. So it may just be a case of getting used to the sim baring in mind I'm coming from msts and trying to be converted....though the latter is difficult given the lack of stock available at the minute.
