Points......

Minor smashing of head against the wall here
I'm attempting to play a scenario, which involves shunting, and obviously therefore, the changing of points. Hovering over any given point lever gives me a nice clicky icon, which does absolutely nothing.
It's not the way I'm clicking- The one on the turntable works just fine.

I can change points through the 2d map, which is pretty hopeless- The zoom functions are terrible, and it doesn't even manage to auto-center on my train, just stays where I left it :(
Is there any other way I've missed to change points, or a reason why the clicky thing isn't working- All I want to do is change the couple of points on either side of me. I could also seriously do with a way to tell which way any point is set without resorting to the 2d map.

Cheers

Hi

The 2d map will centre on your loco if you have selected one. In the top right hand corner of the 2D map is a loco icon. If it is showing red then you can move around the map by holding down the right mouse button. If you click on the icon it will change to blue and will be locked on the loco you have selected wherever it is on the map. Click on the icon again to gain free movement.

The best way to use the 2D map is with a roller wheel mouse (which is also useful for other views in the game). Simply roller back or forth to effortlessly zoom in or out of the map.

I am not sure why the points do not move when you click on a points lever but perhaps this is because the route has already been set by a scenario and you are not allowed to change the points. Try this in free roam mode where you should be able to go where you please.

The points can be checked visually in the game by getting in close to see which way the blades are pointing but I generally use the 2D map which show the paths set (blue lines) and even allows you to set a path for miles ahead if you wish.

It sounds as though you are used to another simulator but I find the pathing, points and signal controls very easy in TS2012.

Note that in the top right hand corner of the 2D map is another monitor shaped icon. You need to click on this to check that all map icons are showing. Any unticked icons will not show up on the map and could make it difficult to achieve what you want.

Used to MSTS I suppose :P
All I want is a nice little dialog box with the next set of points in the direction I'm facing, so I can change from the cab, without having to enter the 2d map
I've tried the icon on the points in both headout and external cameras, and does nothing, but the same point changes just fine from the 2d map. They were set initially by the scenario path, but I needed to come back over them.....

Hadn't noticed the lock to loco, so I suppose that's something, but ought to have been on by default :)

Cheers

Hi

If you have not read through the manuals yet then they will provide you with a lot more useful information on how to get the best from this simulator. On the launcher screen select the Tools & Docs tab and then the Driver Manual. Note that if you open the whole manual folder you will find a few manuals in there, including one on scenario creation. Each time you buy DLC, a new manual will be deposited in this folder as well as some Freeware where the author has written a manual for his creation.

When shunting in yards, you can switch to camera 8 and 'walk' down from the loco to the points lever, throw it and then 'walk' back to the loco using camera 8 and then camera 1 or 2+Shift to get back in the cab. You can see the blades of the points moving as they change if you need visual verification of change. Perhaps unlike MSTS, you do not change points as you go, other than in yards, but you set the path in advance so there is no need for the on screen switch box as all points are controlled generally from the 2D map, not just the next one.

Have fun :D

Just clicking on a lever wont work--you have to click and hold the mouse button down until the points have switched fully.

To change points from inside the cab, use G (points in front of loco) or, SHIFT+G (points behind loco).
Hope this helps.
Tony.

Even easier if you own a "Raildriver", just two buttons, "switch ahead" and "switch behind". :P

Note that there is the alternative to the 'new' HUD. If you switch this off by pressing F4 and then press F5, the MSTS style information comes up on the screen and then by pressing F4 again, this expands into more information. Note A to Accelerate and D to De-accelerate.

In addition, if you press F3 you will get the original HUD which has four tabs providing information in another way.
