A few RW questions

Some time ago, I spent a small amount of time using RW when it first came out. However, my short lived attempts to use the game's inbuilt route editor were plagued with endless frustration, and dealing with newly extracted routes being unpredictable when loading. 70 percent of the time would have been spent trying to get things to work, and the other 30 percent actually playing around with the various functions. Although this probably sounds like rather unfavourable feedback regarding the program, many people have gotten excellent results with it. It has been some time now since RS originally came out, and I am interested to know how the game has developed up to today in regards to stability and bug/annoyance fixes.
Firstly, I had no luck whatsoever in getting markers to work in RW, despite them working in RS going exactly from the supplied help files in the game. Has anyone else had this problem before? What did you do to fix it?
Has anyone had a new route that is completely unpopulated crash on them when loading on subsequent occasions? This has happened to me, but I can't figure out why.
Is it possible to add custom terrain textures amongst the ones supplied with the program?
Is it as difficult as people say to export new locomotives and rollingstock working in the game?
