What the heck has happened with steams latest update !
Has anybody experienced problems with the latest steam update,I am now getting a combination of error messages, missing consists and broken consists on all scenarios on all the routes I have. Before the update, railsim was running like a charm. Is there anyway I could remove this update ??

See the "general discussion" forum, there's a bunch of threads about it. New update on Monday.
Meanwhile it's a good idea to make a copy of your steam install and put your 3rd party stuff into that, and use that for day-to-day play. That way when the original steam install updates and has problems, you can hold off updating your working copy until the issues are fixed.

My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

I'd like to do that, but am not sure how to set up the copy of Steam in the "copy" of the install. In other words, how do I actually run / execute RW in the copy of the install, since I'm assuming that the registry doesn't point to that copy of Steam ?Kariban wrote: ... make a copy of your steam install and put your 3rd party stuff into that, and use that for day-to-day play.
thanks in advance,

Find wherever you copied the game, run "Railworks.exe" from it - it will still ask steam to authenticate so you still need steam running. You don't have to launch any game from the steam client if you don't want to - steam provides desktop shortcuts for game launches itself if you ask it to.
Mine usually requires me to restart the steam client before it's convinced steam is running, but it's not the only game that does that.

Thanks for that - I'll try it later today. I don't know whether it will make any difference, but I usually only run RW in offline mode,

To cure the problems with broken consists in scenarios since the update. Start the scenario, when you get the error message go into the Editor, click on "Drive" (triangle in bottom right corner) and save. That will take you back to the scenario which should then work.

Broken consists can usually be fixed by using the simple "Clear Cache" button from the tools & docs tab of the Railworks launcher screen. That was the advice I was giving out last night and it worked for most.

That was the first thing I tried, but it certainly didn't work for me on the South Devon Banks scenarios. Of course it may have cleared up some scenarios on other routes - I'll never know. On SD Banks the only scenarios that worked without going into the editor were those based on the Kingtrains GWR45xx loco. There must be a reason but I certainly can't think of one.Darpor wrote:Broken consists can usually be fixed by using the simple "Clear Cache" button from the tools & docs tab of the Railworks launcher screen. It's strange really. I even saw a guy posting his "fixing" progress on Faceschmuck last night where he was complaining and had verified the integrity twice to no avail. He then went and did it a third time and it worked! Weird goings on.

Hi Darren
It is OK now. The format has changed though so I think there might have been some re-organisation going on.
I don't visit very often. There are some strange people commenting on the 'Wall'. I am not sure what some of them are on about
