Installing add-ons for Railworks
Hi,
I'm new to Railworks (a recent orphan from Flight Simulation) and although I am experienced in Directory and file handling and manipulation, I am frustrated by how difficult I have found the process of applying Add-ons. One of the problems is probably because I don't understand just what's going on in Package Manager.
I see that there is a very useful "Beginners Guide to Downloading and Installing MSTS Add-ons" in UK TrainSim. Is there a similar guide explaining the Directory and File structuer of Railworks?
I would feel more comfortable if I could simply manipulate the file structure. Before posting this I have spent many hours reading many posts but although I understand the issues I find that I am unable to implement the remedies!
Can anyone help a very frustrated Rail Sim novice?
Barry

Barry,
it's only two months since I started using RW2 so I'm in much the same position as you. If there is any document explaining the file structure, I haven't found it yet.
In theory, you're not supposed to need to know the workings of Package Manager - simply click on the .RWP file and press "Install". However, it seems that with more and more downloads, you must copy such-and-such a file or run some app that came with the download. And I hate all that, as much as I hated automated installers in the flightsim world.
Anyway, something that might help you is the fact that an .RWP file is just a form of archive like a .ZIP file, except that there aren't so many tools that will open it. Thanks to a helpful user here, I now have 7-Zip installed which will quite happily allow me to browse the .RWP and, if necessary, allow me to extract the files to a dummy folder ...
Hope that helps,
moi

Hey,
installing addons for RW is plain easy if they come in .rwp files: press install in the package manager, choose the file and you're done. You could go to the "tools&docs" tab afterwards and clear the blueprint cache, but that is not really necessary - can help to resolve errors though.
to the file structure:
\Assets\Developer\Addon\ followed by one of those: http://www.railsimdownloads.com/wiki/ti ... e%20Manual
depending on what object it might be.
or \Content\Routes\1234-5678-...\ - pretty much self-explanatory.
Usually the only need to copy files around will be for repaints of payware addons. The .geopcdx files contain the information about the 3D model and so can't be given out without violating copyrights of the builder. And this goes mainly from
\Assets\Developer\Addon\Railvehicles\Diesel-Engine-original to \Assets\Developer\Addon\Railvehicles\Diesel-Engine-repaint
apart from that I never needed to move files around as a player. If you want to start developing stuff it's another thing

I'm having similar problems, downloaded the RF Class 20 for RW2 used the installer and it's loaded ok but not showing anywhere in the game, I have also cleared the cache.

Have you bought the Class 20 addon? The file you installed is a reskin.

Have i got to buy the standard Class 20 before I can do anything else, very odd that none of these downloads are working!

Re: Installing add-ons for Railworks
How do you mean "not working", they very clearly state what you require. They are purely reskins of the relevant product which needs to be installed before the reskins can be installed and used.
With the Class 20 you have the option of two different ones from two developers but the reskins you are trying to download are not for both, only for one or the other.

I've tried the green version which does not require the Class 20 pack, but still nothing, seems lots of people with similar problems.

No, there is no such thing as a file in the library that doesn't require a Class 20. The Class 20 is payware, there is no freeware version.

Re: Installing add-ons for Railworks
As Darpor said, there is no freeware class 20 - the payware class 20 is definitely needed for both the repaints you have downloaded. As with most, if not all the reskins on UKTS, any payware requirements are on the download page;dollandsmoor wrote:I've tried the green version which does not require the Class 20 pack, but still nothing, seems lots of people with similar problems.
