Interesting Texture Problem (reskin)

I'm currently making a "Southeastern" reskin for the Class 166 (asiding from the annoying texture location that puts the middle of the logo on an edge of the texture!) I seem to have a different problem where on one side of the train the logo will show fully, but then flip the train and half of the logo on the same side disappears!)

now you see it!

now you don't!

edit - I've cleared the blueprints (just in case ;) anyone thinks that is the problem)

this is due to the shaders in the game or something you need darken the whole image untill your satisfied with it in game start by darkening it by -25 if its to much take it up by 2 every time

This is cause by one of two problems:
1 - The texture mapping uses the area you painted 'Eastern' on as a base for an overlap (essentially this area isn't mapped onto the model.
2 - The contrast is too low to see it. Now considering you place the coach in virtually exactly the same position; the lighting in game is the same, which would make me think it's 1 that's the problem.

Thank you for that, It seems to have fixed it it does show now on the other side

I didn't think that it was no 1 only because in the pictures I placed the carriages so that it shows both sides in each picture (if it were the overlap one of the two in the top picture wouldn't have shown in the top picture either?) but thank you though for your help, I think though that it was the contrast of the "eastern" part and because of the colours of it :(.

Yeah, okay. I completely ignored the background and hadn't noticed you'd moved round to the other side

What level have you used for the alpha channel?

only thing that annoyes me the most with the shaders is one side will always be darker then the other its just all about playing around till you feel yourself whats right and what dont look to obvious.

glad you have it to how you like

I have a feeling that might be one of the problems, I know that gimp shows the alpha layer as separate (I'm still fairly new to reskining  so I don't really know that much although according to paint.net the transparency (alpha) are set to 255 if that means anything?

The alpha layer is essentially how reflective the paint will be in game. You'll notice some areas are practically invisible with the alpha layer on (they're not very reflective) and others are much more reflective so they are more visible with the alpha on. Try setting the alpha over where the body panels are (not the whole alpha channel) to something in the low to mid 100's until you're happy with how it looks in game.

Thank you for your help, I'll try that (and experiment to try to find the best results :) - thanks again for your help on this :) )

Alpha channel will be how transparent some textures are like windows and smaller things like logo overlays, so be aware someone might have used a transparency-in-alpha-channel material for certain places. For specular maps ( which is what reflect in the alpha channel is and generally how alpha is used in RW ) I tend to set it pretty dark with a few blobs of lighter parts to break surfaces up; I don't like horribly glossy shiny things in a game unless it does bloom ( which RW doesn't ), it makes everything look toylike.
