DLC from this site

Post by bri2808 »

Ok, so here's where i'm at...

I have the demo for RW2 and also the main disc should arrive this weekend. To test and see how easy it is to download and install a loco from this site, i thought I would give it a crack. So I downloaded file 25002 Class 47 Tesco. Have got it showing up in the list on the left side of the package manager having installed it.

But here's the question. Why, when I go into a route, for example London to Oxford, does it not show up as a loco? And why does it show as being protected in the package manager.

Sorry for what may appear to be silly questions but I am struggling to find a thread on how to fully install loco's and scenarios too

Hi

Don't worry about it being shown as 'protected' - this just means you can't include it in a package you create.

The reason you can't see it is that in the scenario you're editing, you haven't selecetd its provider in the 'object set filter'.

A picture tells a thousand words. and here's one of Jim Ward's. First, open the world editor (just ask if you're not sure how to do that). Then, Jim's picture tells it all:

It's the provider you're looking for. I'm not sure who provided the item you're talking about but their name should appear in the list of DLC providers if you go to the 'package manager' tab.

As far as I can tell from a quick look at the loco's .bin file you shouldn't have to check any other providers as it should appear in the list as Class 47 Tesco under the default Kuju assets

Try clearing your blueprints cache, that may cause it to appear correctly

Hi Paul and Steve...

Firstly thanks for the replies...

When I say it isnt in the list, it does not show up in the list of loco's when I launch RW with all the routes/scenarios/loco's

Does that make more sense? It does show in that first list under Package Manager

As for the world editor, your right Paul I dont know how to open that

Come to think of it, as it is in the package manager list I can use RStools to change it into a route? If so that could open up a new can of worms i guess :o

HI

If you have downloaded a loco from UKTS I do not think it will not show up in the list of loco's to drive unless it has already been used in a scenario. As per information earlier in this thread, you would need to create a new scenario (an additional free roam is OK) and then use that loco in it, even if you just place it in this new scenario and just give it a driver. (It need not be a new scenario actually, you could place it in any scenario really but it is best to create your own new one. Any changes to default scenarios will simply be 'corrected' when you next update or verify the game with Steam).

Next time you run RailWorks the loco should show up in the Train list and as a loco used in the new scenario you created.

I can see where you are coming from but just because you downloaded and installed a loco from UKTS, it does not automatically show up at the front end of RailWorks to drive, it must have been placed in a scenario in at least one route to show up.

It wont show in the 'Drive by train' section until it's actually put in a scenario, but will still be available for adding to a route in the world editor.

EDIT:Geoff beat me to it.

And between you all guys you have answered my question. I have the DVD waiting to be installed and when the demo runs out today I will then install and see how I get on, be prepared for more questions.

Was an old hand at MSTS but this is a whole new ball game

Hi Brian

If the demo version is fairly complete, in the Tools & Docs tab on the RailWorks launcher screen you will find the manuals which give you a lot of information on the basics of RailWorks which should help. RailWorks 2 is still new to many of us 'old hands' so we are not yet sure ourselves of how this latest version works so you may not get answers to all of your questions.

There is a mass of information of UKTS and it might be difficult to find what you want but try a trawl first if you have a question and the search facility is quite good. Also look through the UKTS Library for tutorials. Note that many of the Rail Simulator assets can be used in RailWorks so look in the UKTS Rail Simulator library for tutorials and assets as well.

Also check out the support page on the RailWorks website where you can find some videos of basic techniques and links to other sources of information.

Sorry Brian, about the lack of response  I did take a look at the Tesco Loco's bin file, when I saw it was still Kuju provider I was a little baffled why it wasn't showing in the scenario editor and thought I better leave this to someone who knows more than me.(thats a lot of people :) ) I now realise you hadn't got that far into RW yet.
When you post a question my advice would be to provide as much info as you can even to the point of adding screenshots of the problem if possible (its been said already but a picture is worth a thousand words).

Regards Brian.

I can find my way around a computer fairly well but screenshots... Thats a stretch too far I think for me. I was a very active person on this forum in the days of the late Laurie Dickerson and Jamie Bowey (Jamie being a real good friend) and Simon (Expressboy) will no doubt remember me too. For some reason I had my forum post count reset, so I appear as a new poster ha ha!!

I agree that posting as much info as possible is important. My apologies because I thought I had posted enough info. Well everything I knew about anyway. Scenario editor was a whole new thing that I was unaware of sorry
