Hi James,

This might be stating the obvious, but do you have the Newcastle - York "Modern" Route installed, this Scenario is for the add-on and not the 'Default' Newcastle - York Route that is part of the Railworks package.

Actually, there "sort of" is a way to play co-op / multiplayer online with a friend via the internet. I've done it at a few different times with some different RailWorks owners.
If you both have mics (head-set with mic works good in my case), and you can either open up Steam-voice-call to a friend on your Steam-list, or perhaps go through some voice-client like TeamSpeak (I've done both ways), then both of you can open up the same route and same scenario and start together and try to do things together at the same time. If following the speeds limits and/or telling each other what your current speed limit is and what adjustments you're making accordingly, and also performing the different tasks at approximately the same time (or waiting until the other one "catches up" on a task before continuing, which if working close together usually don't have to wait long), then in a sense it's like you're both driving the same train together on the same route and scenario at the same time, telling each other about speed limits, upcoming platforms, making comments on some of the scenery, etc... it really can work.
I know it's not "real multiplayer" built-into-the-program, but hey, give it a try if you have the chance and you might be surprised at how well it seems to work. Cheers! :D
