Railworks Questions

Post by shaun123 »

Having seen RailWorks 2 being advertised and having not touched Rail Simulator for a very long time, I'd thought I'd reacquaint myself with it.

I've done a search on railsimulator.com to no avail, so can anyone tell me what routes/activities come with RW2?

Thanks very much,
Shaun.

1. Newcastle - York, 1970s
2. Oxford - Paddington, 2000s
3. Hedborough North, fictional network that is very reminiscent of Immingham, 1970s
4. Bath - Templecombe, 1950s
5. Hagen - Siegen, Germany, 2000s
6. Test Trak - Wildenrath test track, 2000s
7. Port Road (Dumfries - Castle Douglas & Kirkcudbright), 1960s
8. Barstow - San Bernadino, US
9. Castle Rock Railroad (US, fictional)
10. Seebergbahn ('northern Europe', fictional)

I won't name all the activities, far too many to list. As you'll see some (but not all) also shipped with RS but there have been some minor bug fixes to the routes in RS. I assume that if there were more routes in RW2 we'd have been given at least a hint (but for just such a thing, see http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... &p=1343332)

Thanks for that, Paul.

Is Newcastle-York (Modern) designed by the Railworks team, or is that community based?

Newcastle - York (modern) is a payware add-on by Just Trains.

Just for clarification, The Port Road is not actually bundled with the Railworks/RW2 software, but is available as a free additional download from Steam

Another (hopefully a final) question from me, but where can Railworks 2 be purchased from? I've had a search round today and can't find it anywhere.

Is it easier to buy Railworks on it's own and then upgrade to Railworks 2 from there?

Thanks :D

You can't find it because it isn't due out until tonight. Apparently it will be available boxed in stores; or if you have a decent broadband connection I would recommend that you buy it from the Steam store at http://store.steampowered.com/ when the game appears (which I also assume will be tonight).

If you go down this route, firstly create a user account on Steam before you try to buy. Then buy from the Steam store, and it will download.

Whether you buy boxed or Steam download, you have to have a Steam account to get DLC (download content, ie most payware addons) or to get patches. And if your cat should ever delete the lot, or you mess up your installation through tinkering, Steam knows what you have bought and can re-download the files you've deleted/corrupted.

If you buy Railworks from Steam now you'll get Railworks 2 for free later tonight, so you could go down that route if you want. I think the only downside of doing that is that you'll download the game, then the upgrade will overwrite it later, so it's just more use of your broadband.

Hope that helps

Thanks very much again, Paul.

I may just buy Railworks 2 tomorrow then, as that seems the easiest option.

Hi Shaun,

But don't forget, as Paul has said you will still need to create yourself a Steam User account for the boxed version of RW2 to work and as Steam will probably get very busy tonight and tomorrow morning best to get "set up" before tonight.

I would wait until tomorrow or later this evening with the purchase, maybe they'll do a special price on it for the new release. And if not you'll atleast spare yourself the download time with the update. I don't think Steam servers will be used a lot for RW2, it's not the best sold game on Steam. Ever tried getting a Team Fortress 2 update fresh from release? Takes aaaaaages ;) (unless you set download location to Ukraine or Iceland, those seem to be far less used)

Don't spread false information . Port Road will NOT be included.

No, but as it is a free download from Steam I don't think it's unreasonable to include it in the list.

Disagree. Listing it like that gives the impression that Port Road is included in the basic Railworks 2 product, which it is not (it is not listed in the manual, either).
