How to get 390 Package to work on RailWorks Steam
Hello! Sorry if this is the wrong area but I'm very confused. I'm a new RailWorks user on Steam and I have just bought the 390 high speed train pack but from what I'm reading people keep saying I need Newcastle to York Modern? I thought that once I bought the pack that I was able to play the scenarios in the game. So what i'm asking is what I need to do to get the 390 train to be seen in game. Thank you for your help!

Hi,
A scenario is created to be played on one particular route only. When you buy a loco or train add-on some scenarios are often included, but you can only run them on the route that they have been created for. If you have not bought or downloaded that particular route you will not be able to play that particular scenario.
That is how RailWorks is set up I'm afraid.
I haven't got the 390 myself so I don't know which routes you would want. If there is more than one scenario with the pack, try the others to see if they work alright on the 'default' routes (those supplied with RailWorks when you bought it).
regards Ted.

The unfortunate problem is none of the default uk routes in RW are electrified. The only official uk electrified route is the payware Newcastle to York Modern from just trains.
However, in the UKTS file library there are atleast 2 or 3 electrified routes available to download, Cresston v3 being a particular favourite round here with plenty of scenarios floating about.
That'd be your best bet to run the 390 without having to fork out for another route.

For disclosure, I am affiliated with a third party developer however, I do not know anything about any future releases unless I'm working on them and even then, I'd be breaking years worth of built up trust to say anything about it

In fact if you download the Cresston v3 I can probably doctor one of my scenarios to include the 390 plus default stock.
Let me know.

Hi,
I think that there's a senario for the Oxford - Paddington route with the 390 pack, Demo run from Acton.
Cheers.

I made one for the Glasgow Airport route if it helps, but the pack is definitly missing scenarios. But then again, RW is missing proper long routes with overhead wires to run it on by default. Let's see what WCML will bring, that one would at least be long enough to run it at it's proper speed

Yeah, the 390 is such an sleek and sexy high-speed-train. I really like it.
But unfortunately for now there's still a desperate lack of a proper route to run it on and not many scenarios for it either.
As mentioned already, there's a couple of extra scenarios available for it on the Oxford to Paddington route. I just got this 390 scenario pack myself recently, good stuff:

I'm not sure how many people would be interested yet, but I'm currently in the works of making a high-speed-route, that will use 3rd-rail-electric-tracks, so the 390 or other high-speed-trains for that matter, will be able to have a good run on.
I'm making good progress on it so far and even have a couple of test scenarios in place for it. One scenario you drive a 390 and "race" against a rival 390 train on a parallel track to the next station, then a couple of free-roam ones for testing things. It's nice to be able to stretch the legs of the 390 (I can get it up to around 156 MPH so far with a total of length of 7-cars in the train) and even some nice curves on the track to take advantage of the nice tilting action. It's awesome to watch this speed-machine taking nice nice turns at top speed when in cab view... sometimes I think I'm going to fly-off the track, but somehow it manages to hang on.
I'll let people know more about the route as I make more progress on it.

Will the 390 run on a 3rd rail? I thought it used overhead wires for propulsionLoneWolfDon wrote:

Seems to work just fine for me.pjt1974 wrote: Will the 390 run on a 3rd rail? I thought it used overhead wires for propulsion
I think for RailWorks it more of just a visual thing anyways and electric locos can run just fine on either overhead-wired tracks or 3rd-rail electric tracks. For the style of route I'm making it looks a lot better and cleaner anyways using 3rd-rail track, so for me, as long as it works okay, looks good and I'm having fun with it, that's what matters to me.

As long as the track is electrified any electric loco will work on it, be it OHLE or 3rd rail
Bit odd considering the difference in voltage & pick up method but hey-ho

Re: How to get 390 Package to work on RailWorks Steam
A question for RailWorks users who have electric train-set addons;
Keeping in mind that the high-speed-route I'm currently making is completely fictional, would you RailWorks users prefer to see a route that runs electric trains (such as the 380 and 390) have overhead-electric-wire-tracks, or could you still be able to enjoy running these types of electric trains on a route using 3rd-rail-electric track?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Anyways, this snippet below I found from the RailWorks wiki/FAQs which gives a bit more interesting info regarding electric locos and types of track:
"The physical electrical equipment in RailWorks is merely a visual aspect. The electrical properties are held in the track itself.
If these properties have been set up correctly with electric and non-electric sections as per the prototype being modelled, a scenario author will not be able to instruct an electric loco down a non-electric line.
This would be indicated by the instruction being authored to cross the electrical boundary showing “???” instead of valid arrival and departure times."
