Placing buildings at 90 degrees

Post by TransportSteve »

A simple question, but one I'm having difficulty in finding the relevant tool for in the editor function, if there is one....LOL

When placing single buildings on a route, is there any way of getting them accurately at 90 degree angles, please ??

Hi Steve

I am not really sure of the question but you can fine tune buildings placed near or next to each other by using the F & G keys to slowly rotate the item until it is exactly in the position you want.

You could also use the grid indicator in the bottom left flyout window which will show a grid of adjustable sizes onto which you can place your assets. This grid has nothing to do with the terrain grid but is just a locating aid that can be rotated so that, for example, it is parallel to the track and a housing estate can be placed exactly in the same orientation as the track.

If you hold down Ctrl the asset will rotate in 10 degree increments
You can also hold shift for fine tuning as well as using the f & g keys as Geoff said

Thanks Gentlemen. I didn't know there was a grid handy, that would come in useful....I'll try the ctrl button as well, and see if I can get my buildings lined up properly, I've been using the pointed arrow thingy that sticks out of the object, but, it sort of gets in the way a bit and it takes ages to get an accurate angle....

Just to mention also that if you need to restore an object to it's upright position, you can double click on the yellow globe of the gizmo.
Keystroke J will set the object back to (terrain) ground level.
Keystroke F rotates (fine adjustment) objects anti-clockwise
Keystroke G rotates (fine adjustment) objects clockwise
Keystroke V increases (fine adjustment) object elevation
Keystroke B decreases (fine adjustment) object elevation
Keystroke C moves (fine adjustment) object directly away from the camera
Keystroke N moves (fine adjustment) object directly towards the camera
