Hi all

Not sure where to put this, but I'm in need of help.

I desperately want to play RailWorks but my laptop can't handle the graphics requirements. Can anyone suggest a cheap(ish) solution?

I'm absolutely desperate to continue building my route.

Well it all rests really on how much you want to spend? I grabbed a desktop very quickly from Overclockers, see here, as an example, but also look through the ad's. A desktop is a must though because only that way can you build on an already existing framework to improve at a later date.

All this one needs is a reasonable gfx card for around £30-40.

Depends on what you you mean by cheap !!

Simulation games were never really designed to be played on laptops as you need an excellet Processor, RAM, graphics cards, power supply & case cooling, etc, etc to meet the modern day criteria for playing power-hungry games. I can only suggest that you have one made for you if that's what really want, as it would take ages trying to find anything suitable "off the shelf" from PC superstores, etc.

These built both of my computers to spec, but, you can surf the net for other companies.

I've budgeted for around £450

I'd love to get a desktop but I have no idea what to look for. I'd greatly appreciate any help you can give me. I just have to get rebuilding my route again!

What about monitors / gfx cards too?

Get in this week and you'd get a bargain. - Overclockers UK. This gaming maching is good value for the money, but the advantage of a desktop is that whatever you have, it is expandible to be made better!!

That may be a good deal, but it doesn't include operating system, monitor, keyboard or mouse, so it will end up way over the £450 budget.

Was really just as an example and to give the o/p somewhere to safely and reliably look for equipment, instead of places like "PCWorld"!!

yeah! the last place to buy a gaming computer is pc world.
