Hi Jeff,

You're absolutely right. And I haven't really given up. Actually, apart from one piece, I've got it to look pretty good by tinkering with gradients and filler blocks. I'll do a screenie when I'm finished.

I'll stand in the corner with my dunce's cap on for 10 mins
Can I go out to play now? :D

I opened a thread http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 1&t=103878
If you can help here that would be even better.

I'm slowly becoming the repository for Python versions. I may have to get some more storage

It's probably worth a mention here, even though there's a pukka topic, I've had very few SBHH incidents while building this route and all have been immediately identifiable - mostly around plonking down a turntable.

Guys,

Thanks for your help. I now have a fully functioning version of Blender.

It reminds me of when I tried to learn Lightwave. Brain melted to the size of a peanut. (didn't have far to go)
I don't think I'll be using Blender for construction because it's just too different from all my other tools and if I try to spend time learning it, everything else I'm doing will suffer.

However, the good news is that I have successfully taken a Collada file from the freeware version of SketchUp, imported it into Blender, immediately exported a Max compliant file which requires also no massaging in 3DS Max. Excluding textures of course.
Wow. Result.

All I have to do now is learn 3DS Max

Then I'll try custom platforms. (Yeah, right  )
