Creating an AI session and setting destination

Post by rchmnff »

I've been struggling with this one since yesterday. I'll try to make this simple so as not to make the explantion too confusing.

I want run an AI from Monument to Larkspur in AI mode. I know how to do everything except:
1. How do I indicate that this is an AI session?
2. How do I tell the AI session to go to Larkspur?

I mentioned before that I came here from Trainz. I learned all about Trainz mostly by intuition, rarely looking at the manual. Here even with the manual and the wiki it might as well be Greek. Intuition doesn't work here. :drinking:

Hi rchmnff,

When you add a Driver tab (the 'head' symbol) to a Locomotive, do not 'tick' the Player box in the right hand flyout and the Loco will then follow the instructions tabs you allocate to it as an 'AI' Loco.

If you have All Loco's, each one without the Player box ticked it will become a 'full' AI session.

Hope that explains it for you.

Rob

You folks here must have the patience of Job!! I know you're trying your best, but It's not working. I can make Trainz say "uncle" when I blow the horn. And I can make trains jump through hoops. I can do things in Trainz that the Trainz people didn't know one could do. But RailWorks has me completely buffaloed, and maybe it's because I'm so into Train's MO.

With your intructions - I got the driver associated with the engine. No problem there. Double clicking the head symbol opens the flyout on the right. No problem there either. I figured those out by myself long before I posted my question :x-mas:

From that point on, I haven't a clue what is meant by "player box", "instruction tabs", "allocating instruction tabs" etc.

If you want to try one more time, I'd appreciate it. If you can, pick it up from the point where the flyout occurs. Then tell me, step by step, how to make the train go to Larkspur. Larkspur is on the Castle Rock, USA Route.

Here's a couple of channels on YouTube with some good tutorials on how to do some things in RailWorks.
I found it helped me out a lot to see and hear how to do things, as sometimes just reading text from a site or manual wasn't always clear or hard to imagine how to do it:

Hi again rchmnff (sorry I don't know your name),

If you haven't already sorted things out with 'LoneWolfDon's' advice, try having a look at this site (Link below). Originally for Rail Simulator, but the same applies for RailWorks (sorry about the adverts at each video start up).

Once you open the site, if a video is already running look at the right hand corner and click on "Back to show page", this will give you (on the right hand side of the video screen) a list of All the "how to" videos you can watch.

Select number 33 for "Authoring an AI train" and number 27 for "Setting a Stop AI" (Instruction Tabs).

http://railsimulator.blip.tv/

Watch the other Video's as you skills progress.

If you are still stuck after watching these come back and we will try and explain more.

I'm off to youtube. Seems as though there's a bunch of good stuff there. Nonetheless, This stuff in RW is daunting. Certainly not the extremely easy and intuitive Surveyor in Trainz. I need to do a big "memory clear" here. Thanks for the help.

Went to blip and youtube and successfully moved an AI passenger train to Monument platform. And to think it only took me 2 days to accomplish that!!

Now I want the train to move to Larkspur, however Larkspur is far up the line. How do I quickly go there in World so I can either set a marker or set an intermediate stop? No help found in the manual, wiki, youtube, blip or a search of the forum. There must be an easy way.

1. On the right-hand flyout, left-click on the destination icon.

2. RIGHT-click somewhere innocuous on the screen.

3. Press '9' to bring up the 2D map.

4. Navigate to where you want the service to go.

5. Left-click on the destination icon on the right-hand flyout again.

6. Left-click on the platform marker, siding marker etc on the 2D map where you want the service to go.

7. That's it - done.

You can use the same procedure for destinations, via points, station stops etc.

Ok - I tried your tips, as well as the 7 step process, and I finally got an AI train running. Now I'll see if I can do some of the things that I'd lke to do.

One more question while I'm here - How do you navigate the route? If I'm at one end of the route and I want to go to the other end to set a marker, how do I get there?

The forum returned no matches, and the manual and wiki were in their usual non response mode.

Dead easy.

1. Go to the 2D map, view '9'.

2. CTRL-click on the location you want to go to.

3. Go back into the 3D world.

4. On the 'location' top flyout, click on the 'triangle/arrow' just below the world symbol.

The location will immediately reload at the place you ctrl-clicked on the map.

With the tips I got I was able to successfully run several AI trains to a destination. Now I want to add one or two intermediate stops along the way. Several attempts to do so have resulted in flops, or simply ruining the whole AI session. Off hand, I would say that I don't know what I'm doing.

If anyone can come forward with a nice step by step on how to insert an intermediate stop in an AI session, I would be grateful.

Hello rchmnff,

It's all explained in the videos found at the Link that I posted earlier in this Thread, have you watched them?

http://railsimulator.blip.tv/

Number 27 as I previously said, the same method is used either for the 'Player' or 'AI' Locomotives.
