Hi, ensure you have a recent tsection.dat in your trainsim global directory. Build 24 is the latest and available on UKTS.

The UKFS textures go in the route folder, but it sounds like you may not have installed the UKFS shapes to the Global/Shapes folder. If you do have the shapes installed I would concur it is likely you are using an old tsection file. I think you need at least tsection v22 if you have a full UKFS installation.

Check the tsection version, and check you have items beginning ukfs_ in the Global/Shapes folder.

0X My problem is similar to that, i first installed everything apart from the zip files and it wouldn't work, I then went back on the website and realised that I hadn't installed the tsection file.
Now I've done that though, the track shows up in the list, but there is an error message ( I cant remember the exat words) saying basicly that it couldn't load the UKFS stuff.

it is a two stage installation. Follow the instructions carefully. The first installer puts several files into a temporary folder. You then run the installers you want from that temporary folder.

That was what I did. Do you have to install the new tsection first though

I think you just need the latest tsection.dat installed before you try to run the sim or RE with UKFS installed. As long as both reside together, it should work; installation order shouldn't matter.

What error messages are you getting?

Error messages that occur when the Route Editor is opening, are likely to be down to tsection.dat - make sure you extract it to the /GLOBAL directory of MSTS.

If you are trying to add a shape and get an error:

Error "No extended shape data for..." then that means the .sd file for that shape is missing from the \GLOBAL\SHAPES subdirectory MSTS.

"Failed to open shape file.." means the .s file for that shape is missing" - as above, and these would occur together if it UKFS track shapes aren't installed.

If you get those messages, run the file ukfsv3.1_shape_installer.exe (in c:\program files\ukfinescale v3) and make sure you set the path to that of your MSTS installation (it doesn't use the registry key so you can easily install it to other locations of MSTS you may have)

If you get "Failed to open texture file" then the UKFS textures are not in the routes texture directories, make sure you copy these from the texture sets into the /TEXTURES directory making sure you also copy the SNOW directory.

"Shape failed to load..." usually means the textures and/or the shape files are not present.

I'm looking into ways to improve future installations so that installation is easier, and with fewer parts.

This is the message I get when I go onto the place object mode and go down to the ukfs stuff. It then comes up for the rest of the ukfs. (Lost image. Will re-put it on internet)

The reason for the error this is that "Track sections" list contains all the pieces which are defined in your tsection.dat file whether you use the pieces in your route or not. The same thing can happen with the "Road sections"

The easiest solution here and this is what I do, is to uncheck the Show thumbnails box.

The alternative would be to copy the textures for every peice into every route you wish to edit. If you have a standard version of the tsection.dat then you may not have all the known possible track and road pieces (an d their textures) installed.

The Carlisle Settle line (Europe1) doesn't use UKFS so the only reason for the problem is that RE is trying to generate thumbnails for all shapes included in the tsection file.

Either use a utility such as Route-Riter to rebuild the tsection file with only the items you have installed or untick the thumbnail checkbox.

Unless you have a UKFS route or intend building one you needn't actually install anything for UKFS.

Installing UKFS textures into every route you have would be a rather silly method of solving the problem, even though it would work!

Ah yes, turn off thumbnails - they are of little use anyway.

For any route that has UKFS track, or you want to build/adapt with UKFS track, you need to copy the textures in to that routes texture directory, making sure you copy all the textures including the SNOW sub-directory.
