Dirty track

Tim Booth created an absolutely stunning track system for MSTS called UKFineScale (aka UKFS). Accurate track profiles, hyper detailed track pieces and points etc make for stunning routes, before you even start thinking about scenery!

Dirty track

Post by timbooth »

Coming soon will be weathered/dirty versions of each of the texture sets.

These add even more realism to busy routes, and give an idea of what can be achieved when repainting UKFS textures. A guide to repainting the textures will be available soon.

Fantastic! I'm really looking forward to a (completed) route that uses UK Finescale. Why don't UK route developers use this system now it has "matured"?

It is being used, and recently its interest appears to have rocketed further.
Its probably the case that UKFS routes tend to be more complicated (as UKFS allows), and therefore take longer to build.

A fully complete route can take months or even years to build, depending on its length and attention to detail.

If I can add a belated two pennyworth, I think the revised texture looks much more realistic unless the whole of the trackbed needs to look brand new!

These new textures will affect all the standard shapes, so yes it does mean no sections with clean trackbed by default. What you could do, is use the rusty/grassy shapes repainted as clean, so that only the frequently used track is dirty. Once the alternative texture series have developed, it will be much easier to incorporate alternative texture shapes into routes to increase the realism.

Tim, when you are looking at revising the textures, could you possibly have another look at the tunnel textures?

<IMG width="443" height="279" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php ... tunnel.jpg">

The trackbed in the tunnel could really do with being much darker, and in this variety, the untracked side is semi-transparent which can look a little odd.

Is there a workaround to darken the trackbed in tunnels please?

There are a few issues with the textures, I hope to fix these as soon as possible.

Tim, have you had anymore thoughts regarding this new texture?

I really like it, it would look great for yards and sidings :P

Also does the Nene Valley Railway use this texture they seem to look almost identical

I agree with you about the track texture.

Out of interest, I was wondering what route that is. The telegraph poles look much much too close together.
