ELR for RS???

Post by bigvern »

Following on from a thread in the new "Generic" forum, wonder if there are any plans to do an ELR pack for Rail Simulator? RS is crying out for a greater diversity of diesel traction (and steam!) which given the MSTS ELR pack was an Aladdin's Cave for that sim could surely repeat the success in the new sim? I know converting locos to the new format is not as easy as structures etc. but apart from the "official" Class 66, the Class 158 DMU and the possibility of a semi-official Class 37 there's a huge gap which an updated ELR pack would nicely fill. I'd pay £20 for it. Now that MSTS2 is dead, the distraction is gone so, why not do it for RS?

Hi
I think everyone would pay £20 for it Vern  ........ but at KRS prices it would need to be £200 minimum.... wagons are £5 a pack, even activities and single sound sets are around that.

Cheers

Exactly why it would be hugely popular - the "micro-payware" of RS is debated elsewhere but with some serious competition both freeware and donationware that would start to drive the price down.

Obviously if it did happen, would be up to Chris and his associates to determine a reasonable price.

Hi guys, spose i best speak out here, yes a ELR add-on for the new sim would be great, im all for it. BUT my big problem is time.
When i put together ELR for MSTS, i was out of work, so had 8 hours a day to spend on it (and i did!), life for me has changed big time, i have a family, im back in employment and work shifts, and im restoring 3 locos at Bury. My 'simming' time is next to zero, my available free time at home when i can get on a PC is spent on NWC and thats pushing it (so the missus tells me). For me to sort and do ELR for RS i would need to learn a fair amount of new stuff, which i have very little time for, when RS came out i struggled to 'convert' from MSTS (and i worked on its development at kuju!) so i gave up on it. Unless someone in the know is willing to take it on and do it on our behalf then i cant see ELR being done from this neck of the woods. Most of the stuff elr was created with was done in TSM along with the locos, majority of the source files were lost in a PC crash sometime ago, so buildings etc would have to be done from scratch.
I dont want to put a damperener on it, and it would be great to break into the RS market and raise more much needed cash for D5705 & D8233's restoration, but it needs others help who are 'RS' competent, id be willing to help with research, getting source material such as sounds, piccys etc etc etc, it would just need that body or two to build it.
