3D 1938 Tube Stock Cab

Post by DarrenCarter »

As the 1938 Tube Stock is my favorite and was the first cab i ever attempted in Gmax a couple of years ago i thought it time to update the model. This i believe is my best attempt at a model so far.
I would also like to dedicate it to the memory of my father who died in March this year aged 71 just after i began the model. My mother always said that dad was a perfectionist and had an eye for detail before he lost his sight. I would like to think i follow in my fathers footsteps. I had to take some time out to get my head straight as it seemed to put all this playing into perspective. Hence why Sarah Siddons took me a bit longer to complete. Thanks to the members of The Virtual District Line team for there messages of support through what has proved to be a difficult time for me.

Anyway, here's some screenshots of the cab which hopefully will be a new 3D one for MSTS and Railsim. All the buttons on all the panels will be operable.
The model is currently running at 19622 triangles according to 3DC without stripping any of the back facing polygons yet.
I would also like to say a big thankyou to Christopher Westcott ( http://cjw.fpic.co.uk ) for supplying a pic of the emergency equipment location sign on the "J" Door.
And Richard Randall ( http://www.piccadilly-line.org.uk ) for the pic of the seat cover material. Both websites well worth a visit.

Enjoy.
Darren.

Darren your work never ceases to amaze me, that is a stunning piece of work even down to the pockmarked surface around the buttons, it's certainly taken me back to the Bakerloo Line circa 1984, great set of shots.

A great tribute to your father.

Glen.

One itsy witsy point on the finer details....the texture on the fire extinguisher - the lettering is backwards. :-?

dknightley - its only backwards on one half, guessing only had one picture of the fire extinguisher (i was going to say the same about it being backwards)

I also agreee with every one else it is a brilliant build and a very good dedication to your dad.

Back to reality - shame that TfL dont name there tube trains, as it would be nice if they did and you could dedicate a carraige/leading carraige to someone special (other TfL things could be done like stations etc.) Tube drivers are one of the biggest part of the back bone of the London's transport network, and with out them London would be one of the largest cities in the world without an underground network and, to be honest, collapse.

Thanks All, and well done to James, you cracked it in one.
I only had the one pic of the fire extinguisher.
Now i am realising all the time what level of photography i need for my cabs hopefully each successive cab will have more detail.
Here is my two TGA's I've used on the cab and a lot of parts are photo textures.

but it doesn't really matter, we all get the sence that it is a London Underground fire extingisher so it doesnt matter that its the same picture. some of the trains that you buy are not so realistic (thinking of the original ones from MSTS)

Just got back off vacation to find this, and after some 15 mins of looking at all the shots I'm still finding detailed items and little touches that show the care and skill that was applied. I'm mentally running out of superlatives, so I'll just say that it looks exaclty what it is meant to be. An old 38TS that has seen years of faithful service - the faded seat moquette, the buttons polished and worn concave by use, the list goes on. Even the SCD and shoe paddle (aka Instructor's Emergency Brake Handle) against the front offside wall. This cab has character and a soul. Looking at this I can imagine the guard's bell and the RPA clicks. Great memories and a beautiful tribute.

Best, Jimi

Stunning work, as Dr. Jimi says it is just exactly like a real cab. Well done :)

I see Railsim have released some more screenshots of their 1938 Tube Stock for the IOW line.

The cab looks good but i definately prefer mine. There looks to be many bits missing now on the modified version now.
