There was a post about this long ago. Then someone came up with an idea if when the reverser is forward, the Left doors will open and wit the reverser backward, the right doors will open or vice-versa.

Weekly Update

Post by drjimi »

The Virtual District Railway staff -- the layers of track, movers of dirt, builders of structures, painters of textures, counters of rivets, creators of various signage, assorted camp-followers and general hangers-on is pleased to report on this week's progress.

The Acton Town station is generally complete, except the roads and some assorted buildings thereon. While the previous 2 stations took about 700 polygons each, this one clocked in at over 1100. As the count passed 1000 we decided to ignore it and go for the details. The results are presented pictorially below.

Once the station and bridge were placed accurately, it was clear the the trackwork west of the station needed some adjustment - somewhat vexing the track and terrain crews who thought they were done for the week and could lean on shovels and drink tea. Their further efforts were worthwhile, as the virtual depiction of the area now matches reality to a higher degree.

Accordingly, the operators of trains were summoned to test the new track and station, and - other than some remedial terrain work remaining near the depot east reception road - they were satisfied. As the placers of signals will not be summoned to perform their work until the later stages of the project, only one train could be run -- for obvious safety reasons. The remaining stock was therefore left in the depot, as photo evidence below confirms.

The remaining staff were last seen heading towards the specified location of Chiswick Park station in order to begin construction thereof, the structures at Acton Works having already been completed at an earlier time.

Brilliant stuff. 2 years of college in Acton in the 70s and many years of returning from concerts at the Hammersmith Odeon came flooding back.

I really must get on with the 1959 Piccadilly stock so that the scene can look complete.

Cheers

:o That is truly amazing stuff, can't wait for it to be out. Will it be as a download or distributed on a CD? Any idea when it will be out?

I though you were making the 1938 stock! Anway, a bit of repainting will make it the 1956 and 1962 stock(needs a bit of shape editing).

Thanks again to everyone for your kind comments. I'm delighted to see the project seems to have gotten people enthused about the LUL and that there's some more stock being developed. Richard - I have fond memories of the Picc 59TS! I used to live in the Farnborough area and frequently drove up the A4 to park at Osterly and 'tube' into the city. Looking in the other recent threads it seems we're only missing a C69 stock to cover a range of operating periods up to the present time.

Unfortunately - minimal progress over the last week due to a long business trip. I did manage to create some track cable sections (various lengths) that "snap together". That will greatly simplify laying the miles of track-side cables required. I've also decided to completely finish the scenery and buildings around ECMN and ACTN (e.g. the buildings along the roads/bridges) before moving on to building Chiswick Park station and surrounding area. As I progress east, the stations will get easier to build due to their simpler (and largely similar) design. Building a complex station on a curve (like ACTN) takes a long time.

Regarding when it will be ready and how it will be distributed, I provided some info in an earlier reply. But essentially, I had hoped for a V1 Beta (all roads west of ECT) by June. A recent increase in my real job workload will likely delay that a little. Distribution method(s) have not yet been finalized. I'll continue to post news and progress.

Thanks & regards, Jimi

Just want to say, I've just seen this thread for the first time. I foolishly missed it and posted this

I've not seem a more detail route. I'm glad I've just upgraded my graphic card to cope with the load. I'm going to really look forward to trying this route out when it's released. I'd like to thank you guys who have the time and can get thier heads round building routes like this. I only wish I had the skills.

Keep the screenshots comming till the release. Well done and thank you!

If thats the stock now used on the Isle of Wight then i'm off to the Isle of Wight tomorrow to get some pictures and to make a new start, I got the body sorted out but I'm having another go at it.

Also, if no one else has started it, i'm planning on doing the modern day D stock.
