Just restarted the Download Server so that the new bandwidth limits for non-premium users are back in place again.

Apologies for the inconvenience to those who were currently downloading!

Have the e-mail POP3 settings changed as connection to the server now fails? Thanks.

I guess the new fast server isn't so fast after all my maximum preimum download speed is 48.5 KB/S.
Hope this is just a temporary glitch.

Well thats a little more than my maximum speed was when the servers were in the USA (38.5KB/s), so maybe you are getting the reverse of the problems I was over here in the UK. :( which I think the ISP out there put down to transatlantic traffic. But Matt's the expert in these things.

Over here im still getting 2.37MB/s :)

It might be worth doing a tracert check as John has suggested further back in this thread, so Matt can see where any bottlenecks are occurring. :)

Edit @ 07:35

the download server seems to have stalled again :(

Hi there,

Just to update, as of this time the download server has gone on the blink again.

BTW, got to laugh at you guys talking about poor performance (45kb/s etc)

Spare a thought for us poor chaps on dial-up modems (due to remote location) who are getting 5 kb/s................with a following wind and downhill! :D

Cheers

Restarted.

I'm going to work on the new download system this weekend and we'll finally be done with this unreliable heap of junk!

Apologies

Just let me know if it dies so I can restart it.

Note: Those users in the USA may well see slower downloads as the server is no longer geographically local to you.

While evaluating various options for the new server it became apparent that a US based ISP was unlikely to provide really good performance to the UK because of the trans-atlantic pipe that it has to cross to get here. I took the decision that as 80-85% of our users are actually based in the UK I would locate it locally to the majority but this will unfortunately mean that users outside of the UK *may* well suffer no improvement or even a step backwards.

By all means, if you're a premium user and are based in the US and seeing a drop in speeds - let me know, if there's enough of you it might justify getting a smaller server based in the USA.

Don't know if it's been noted before, but, mstsbin.uktrainsim now links to the forums, rendering the mstsbin site unreachable, unless i've just got the wrong URL for it in the first place!

Restart your DNS client service and close down all browsers (or just reboot your machine) - and it should now work, i've corrected the DNS entry. Apologies.

I've also set up "mstsbin2.uktrainsim.com" which might work in the mean time until your DNS updates for the mstsbin address. Note: mstsbin.uktrainsim.com is STILL the main address, the mstsbin2 address is just a temporary that might work quicker for you, in any case the primary url should be working no later than 24 hours from now if not before.
