When I try to use the Forum search, the first page of results opens, but when I want to go to a following or other page I get the message

No topics or posts meet your search criteria.

As there are many more pages listed at the bottom of the first page this is very frustrating.

Can you give us some example of the search criteria that does this. I have seen a search return a page of results and indicate there is a second page but when I go to the second page it is empty. I have never seen it indicate multiple pages of results but only show one page.

Kindest regards

John

I entered 'Conbuilder. as the search item in all categories. thsi returned a page with 20+entries. At the bottom right hand corner is the line

Goto page 1,2,3,---26,27,28 NEXT

Clicking on either NEXT or any of the underlined numbers brings up the Failed to meet any of your criteria message

Tony

I've had this problem for a while now, but with the 'view all posts by xxxx' facility - I started a thread on it but none of us could get to the bottom of it.

I'm on AOL Broadband (same as you, if memory serves?), and had the same problem when I was on AOL dial up.

Well that is a strange one Tony. I get a page of results and the same stuff in the bottom right hand corner. When I click on one of the pages at random I get that page displayed correctly.

No idea what is going on here. Hopefully Matt can shed some light on it.

Cheers

It's is actually Easilyconfused with a capital E please  and no txt-spk either thanks :-) Hopefully the information supplied by Tony and my follow-up test will help Matt sort things out.

Perhaps you would like to perform the same test and post the results to aid further investigations ?

Kindest regards

John

My test agree with yours John. I can view posts on all the pages found by the search :) Must be an AOL thing :(

And yet the form of the unwanted second page suggests an internal fault rather than one connected with AOL. I do not get this situation with any other internal links when using other websites with AOL.

I have seen this problem from an NTL connection and my work connection, although I've not reproduced it recently.

I have an ntl connection and experience no problems with the search results; I get all sorts of other problens, but they're usually MY fault...

I get this when searching for 2 words with the AND in between -

Could not insert search results

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1406 Data too long for column 'search_array' at row 1

(followed by a very long list of data)

Simple answer. I think the total number of hits was too big for the code to handle. This error is known about and Matt has it on his list of things to do....which doesn't help with your search.

Try being a little more precise in your search...and try and keep the max number of hits below around 8,500.
