Posts being Edited?

Hi!
Erm, Can I ask, or make a suggestion?
Check out the following post:
http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?t=37999
Now, I can see that this post has been presumable moved yes?
That is all well and good, seems to be in the right place now. However, I fail to see where that warrents a Moderator editing the post.
Why cant the moderator/s just add a post of their own simply saying "
Moved here" or somthing, as when the post is edited, it makes it look like the original poster has done something wrong. ALSO, the post doesnt seem to have actually beed edited. Simply the wopic has been moved?
Thanks,
Pete

Thats there because I personally think it works better, I have seen other mods using that method before, so I decided I would too. I have to admit, it makes people read the post properly though to see what is wrong with it.

If I move a post I just tack on a post at the end rather than highlight it - in this situation we have no specific method - it's each to his (or her!) own

Agreed, there have now been a number of incidences where certain new moderators' activities have been undesireable. Thought Mods were suppose to act neutral.....rather than 'what I say goes'.

Its seems to be one mod in particular, on the Saltley TMD issue would it not have been better to have consulted with another Mod/s on the Moderators Forum what the best course of action was to take? instead of the pigs ear that he's made off it? I read the Saltley Post and thought "why has this been edited????", seems others have as well.
I thought the whole purpose of the moderators forum was for sharing of views, ideas and ways forward. Instead we seem to have one Mod out to make a name for himself, other topics and locked threads spring to mind on this theory.
In thinking of my many school reports the words "must try harder" spring to mind.

Oh .... the joys of modding
I've no idea what the post said before it was edited and can't comment. There is the assumption that it must've been bad and you try and work out what it was .... well I do anyway
I only edited swearwords and replaced then in a different coloured font with something less controversial. Editing posts to any extent is always contraversial although I'm not bothered myself.
I remember the new mods were to remain in the background for a while but found themselves in 'front-line duty' but I've no idea whether that's of their choosing or neccessity.
Whatever anyone thought of us, and you shouldn't expect to be liked as a mod, ST and myself occupied that postion before the new mods came along.
Personally, I would've liked to see more of the other mods .... as they are mods .... have access to the mod forum and power over my membership. The others do appear in varying degrees but it's quality, not quantity and one line in one post can be as effective as my ramblings
At the end of the day, the mods are chosen and responsible to Matt. I'm content to abide by their decisions but then again, I regard a trainsim forum as very small beer in the public house of life

PS
I've found this to be true by bitter experience.
If you're often in trouble and keep getting in a huff and leaving for good (which is normally a week or so

) .... it's you .... not the the forum, mods, Matt, the other members or the Government

(John McCririck please note

)

I am sure that the post was not edited in any way, just moved.
the moderator edit message has one main use, which is, if we edit someones post, there was nothing to stop them editing our comments out again, using the mod edit, only mods can re-edit the post if need be.

I know it wasnt edited as AllyPally stated this, my main thrust was he made a complete hash of doing the moving bit, maybe Peters comment at the top is the clearest "Moved here".
Like I said this is yet another hasty action on this "newbie" mods record.

Nobody's perfect - not even me

so can we give AllyPally a little grace?
I think his problem, if that's the right word, is that while the term 'editing' is technically correct, it's misleading in this instance, leading readers to believe, erroneously, that the text of the message has been changed. Were he to have just placed an extra line in the message saying "Moderator's note: moved from xyz forum" then left a copy in the original forum and locked it, we probably wouldn't be having this debate.
I commend him for trying to be pro-active in some respects, but sometimes, as my wife often reminds me, that in itself can be very trying...
On the other hand, if the original posters thought a little more about the suitability of their intended forum before posting, maybe he wouldn't have to do anything...

Yes nobodys perfect, as my driving license and annecdotes of life will testify but this one Mod crops up very often (yes maybe he is trying to look busy) but his actions leave me to think that maybe he wasn't really suitable for a Mods position. Look through the forums and there has been a few hasty moves on this individuals behalf, the Jerry Springer opera thread is a recent example, there are others.

I may not have been following all this correctly, but the issue appears to be the post was moved ?
The [edit] appeared pretty clear to me in this case. At no time did I think that someone had been censored or moderated.
Am I missing some much bigger and more serious point here ?

He's moved it yes! but it looked as though he had censored it as well, Hence EDIT in red bold letters, if he hasnt edited like he says, then it was poorly done. Why not a simple, as Pete suggested "I've moved this".
My other points are this is yet another poor modding issue on Allypallys behalf, you may disagree with me as others may do but there has been other topics where he's barged in with with no concievable plan and then back tracked somewhat.

This is just it John,it didnt say anything.
AllyPally sort of dropped himself in it on his comment at the start. The thing is, is when a Mod takes action, then some people assume that the person has done something wrong. This would bring "bad press" on the original poster :/
I dont know, it just seems sort of common Mod sense to me that if you move a topic, leave a shadow one in the old forum (turns out this didnt happen either), OR PM the poster to say it's been moved.
Do not get me wrong, I am not getting after Alex for this, I just think a bit of a better selection could have been made by what Moderating I have seen from him so far? I can understand if this is your first time at moderating a proper forum, but maybe as suggested you should have taken a back-seat for a few months to get suited into the roll?
(And by Moderating a proper forum, I mean carrying out Moderation Actions once every two days, that you dont just do it, you tell people you have done it).
Just, when it says "This post has been edited. . ." seems to be somewhat of a lie, as it hasnt really been edited? Another question to think about, is how young is too young?
