I thought it was an interesting way to do it in the beginning.
Usually people are approached in the beginning and asked if they would like the status.
However, I do not know how or why these two were selected, and I think it is best it is not known, it just. . . is.
I think the only way for those who did not get selected, is just show your helpfulness. Unfortunatly for some - that is already shot of

It's very simple. I posted a request saying "ok, I need some more help", people responded. I looked through the PM's I got and I put some names to the existing moderator team of people that I felt might be up to the job (it's not easy) - I won't be drawn in to discussions about why people were or were not suitable, in many cases many of the applicants were suitable so not being chosen doesn't mean insuitability it means that there are only two slots open right now.
The moderator team gave me some feedback on people that they had experience with one way or the other, gave me their own views on the list about who they felt would be able to contribute and then I took a final decision on the names each of them gave me so that I would have a reasonable spread, in this case one is a youngster and the other less of a youngster
I want a reasonably wide spread, I want moderators that are prepared to spa off against each other but are also able to come to a conclusion quickly because that's what provides a reasoned and fair response to any situation taking in as many views as possible without opening up every situation to the entire forum base - which would slow things down no end.
New mods are NOT chosen because they are mates of existing mods.
Matt.
