IMHO, moderation, if properly applied, has little to do with one's own personal view. It's more a kind of policing to ensure that forum rules are followed.

Let's face it, many of us feel that certain laws of the land are less than fair, and so do some police officers, but we still have to obey them, and the police still have to enforce them. Same with Forum rules - you may not agree with them, but moderators enforce them as they are, not as they'd like them to be. You may not agree with what some members post in terms of content, but provided that they do it within the rules, there's no case for moderation.

Self-interest in commercial activity might be a case for recusal in certain circumstances, though I'm a little troubled by the thought that a commercial interest in something should be thought cause for a member not to exhibit fairness in all things.

Aye, I did think carefully, its been something ive been thinking of doing for some time. I dont mind making enemies, the way I walk in my life ensures that. I have plenty of time over the evenings and at weekends at the moment, and that wont change for at least a year. Ive been around for long enough to know a lot of people on the forum, and their views on some subjects. It takes a lot to blow my fuse, its never really happened for quite a few years now. Plus, having got some much enjoyment and fun out of UKTS, I feel that now my time on MSTS is running down to a low level, its time for me to give something back to the community that has given me years of enjoyment.

I wouldn't mind being a Moderator, I have had experience in dealing with members of the public, (well I do work in a supermarket where I have to help them and serve them!) I generally remain calm when typing and try hard to be polite. I understand that Moderating cn be hard and sometimes thankless, but also that it is essential to keep the forums running smoothly, so Matt you're going to get another PM, this one from me.

I do not mind if I'm not selected though as I'm sure Matt will choose the most appropriate people to be Mods

In theory, personal issues of any kind can be put aside but month in, month out, they do creep in eventually, especially when people resort to personal attacks. Theory and practice were entirely different.

There are no rules, as such, you have to use your coomon sense, initiative and discretion. The other mods tell you if you're 'losing it' :) That's the safeguard. It's not a simply a chatter forum as there's money at stake for many.

I found it a challenge, learned a lot and now take a very different view of moderation.

Probably sound discouraging but if anyone fancies the challenge, go for it :)

Probably when the moderators have had a decent chance to look through the applications Matt sent on, and of course, when Matt is not in Birmingham , which might help.

[Moderator Comment: sp762 -

Just to let you know that the volunteers are being considered at the moment, and will be contacted individually by Matt.

It's a very close field, and there's only one or two new mods required, so don't be offended if you don't get selected.

On consultation with the rest of the moderating group I've made my decision on who the next two new moderators will be. JP4712 and AllyPally have the dubious honour of joining in.

As I've said, this is not a slight or anything even remotely bad on any of those that were NOT selected - but with over 30 offers and only 2 positions there were bound to be 28 people not selected :)

My intention is to go let the two new gents settle in and see how they get on with moderating and then in a couple of months time I will post up looking for two further moderators, so keep an eye out.

Sincerest thanks to everyone that offered their time and assistance, it is very much appreciated.

Matt.
