Advertising on Trainsin

Post by ejr1965 »

Don't know if this is the correct forum or not butevery time I log on to Trainsim from here in the USA , I seem to get bombarded with all kinds of unrelated advertising. I do have US anti-spam set up in my computer but it doesn't seem tobe able to control UK spam.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to try and eliminate this annoying problem whilst at the same time being able to enjoying accessing Trainsim?

There is one very easy way... subscribe, it turns off all the generic advertising and the only thing you'll get are the unintrusive (i.e. they don't animate in an annoying way, they don't pop anything up, they don't pretend to be a real window and so forth) train sim specific ads.

Right click on the 'UKTrainSim' link at the top of the forums and save it to your bookmarks, this will take you to the front page of UKTS *logged in* and therefore you will not see any banners even on your first visit.

There are a bunch of new banner ads in the forumns from Lypha webhosting that are very garish. In contrast with a lot of the banners that lead somewhere useful and related to MSTS these seem somewhat out of place.

I don't get any ads on the main UKTS screen since I have followed Matts advice and got my URL saved correctly but I get the banners in the forumns.

Ugh so much for google.

Might be time to revert the forum banners back to burst again, that google experiment has been a disaster in just about every respect.

Well I wouldn't say it was a total distaster. About 50% of the adverts I see regularly were somewhat relevant to MSTS or related interests. It just seems in the last week or so there are a lot more irrelevant ones.

I just clicked on one banner ad for Mamod steam engines and bookmarked it for later use / suggestion to wife for Christmas present :D

And I do like the one for hiring giant Scalextrix sets for office parties etc. Unfortunately our office Christmas party is already booked so we can't follow up on hiring the 8 way Sega Rally arcade machine :(
Kindest regards

I get the lypha ad in this topic - I think that shows it's working properly, i.e 'reading' the body of the text and putting a relevant advert in - within limits!

Yep, I'm getting Lypha as well.

Surprised to see the ads but don't mind them.

Click to GROW

When I click it, i get nothing but a page saying the same thing as the link :D I can get it to show me if I want, but i dont want to see the ads! Web browser is Maxathon. I admit, it takes a little getting used to, but I assure you, it is the best one I have come accross.

Yeah noticed earlier that it seems to set the adds depending on whats there, Site Admin seems to be enough to trigger off non train sim stuff

This thread is currently giving me 'Cheap Web Hosting', all I usually get when it's not Lyphia.

I like it when you get Google ads on this site advertising UKTrainSim ;)
