Oh I give up. I carn't be bothered anymore
I am starting to feel the same way.

I spend all my time doing politics on the forums and then people wonder why I don't get UKTS 2 done with all of its improvements to many of the things people are complaining about.

Sigh

I don't bloody blame you.

Jimmylad, I have been a premium subscriber here since Methusulah was swimming round his dad's glands, and I've been uploading a while. I'm not a trusted uploader. And I couldn't give a tom tit. I'd rather have any security vulnerabilities plugged and an added layer of checking for the odd occasion I goof up the zip or something than be trusted and find some little scroat gets into the system via someone's account who happens to be trusted and causes mayhem in someone else's name. I have no idea why you seem to be taking this so personally. Those that still have trusted status only do so because they started uploading stuff before you or I did, and have kept the status for now. They will lose it soon. Then we will all be equally untrustworthy.

As for file delays, I've had half a dozen files waiting nearly a week for checking, again I'm not moaning, I know Matt is on a JAL probably something boringly Boeing somewhere in the ether, and because the site is given a disproportionate amount of his spare time to keep running I expected a delay. It must be nice for him to spend time with the family. I think given the news on another thread, a week or so delay in approving files isn't really worth getting worked up about.

As far as I'm concerned my premium sub allows me to download stuff without restriction, and helps keep the site going when the predecessor ended up closing down because of the massive bandwidth charges the proprietor faced. I don't really expect more than that, if I'm trusted or not is irrelevant in the greater scheme of things.

I really do want to re-iterate that the opposite of 'trusted' status is not UNtrusted, that has negative connotations that I am definitely not aiming for.

I'm gonna post this without checking myself, in the hope it will prove a point.....

I'm sure I heard before now that the 'Trusted' status is no longer being given to people, and that in future, the scheme is being discontinued.

I'm not a trusted uploader - and to be honest, I don't mind at all that I never will be.

As it happens, I uploaded a dodgy ZIP file the first time I tried to upload anything, so it's a good job a file library moderator e-mailed me so that I could correct it.

Apologies if I've gone over old ground, but I thought it would help to indicate that if you keep an eye on current issues, you'll always be in the know :)

Cheers

Then we will all be equally untrustworthy.
Actually I quite like the idea of being "equally untrustworthy". It sounds more appealing to me than being "Trustworthy".

I dont know why people are bothered.
I am not a trusted uploader, I am not fussed about it either. But you could make the same argument with everything:

Why am I not a Moderator? I have been a premuim for years to!
Why have some got a special title, when others havent?
Why am I not rich? I have been working for many years of my life!
Why am I not a "trusted uploader" . . . . . because I am just not :P

The thing is, is in this world, some people have some stuff, others dont. Never ask to be something, because he who asks is not exactly humble, just wanting.

Let Matt do the UKTS2 stuff - the live demo was really good, and besides, the more we leave him to do it, the better it will be! AND many of the questions and wants will be forfilled!

Hi Matt

How about a site spokesman?

Also, perhaps a better idea would be a Admin Questions forum - only one post can be made which asks a specific question, then will be answered the next time a moderator or you looks in. This would stop some of the damaging misconceptions and arguing that result when someone talks about things like trusted status, before you get a chance to answer the original question. There is a common pattern of question - discussion - argusing - more questions - more argusing - a response from you or a moderator - even more argusing/misconception/threats to leave/'I cant be bothered' statements/people getting upset - then the thread gets locked. If it consisted of just question - answer (any other discussion by PM), it would make things much more clear cut, and reduce the tendency in some threads of making it look like people are ganging up on you. Also, if a question about aspects of the site/why the site is unavailable/where you are etc is all in one place, and without a lot of the OT discussion, it would make finding information much easier.

What 'ya think? (sorry for any grammar errors)

Or members could ask a question only Matt can answer, privately?

Posting publicly could illicit a response a bit quicker though :)

The thing with words though is not too good.
The whole trusted uploader is not the best choice of words, but then saying that, I could nt think of a better one. It's like in the Uploaded Files bit. Next to one of mine it says "Not Approved". That makes me think it has been rejected, however, i know it is simply waiting to be apporved. It could be the same thing here, words can be misleading.

I understand that you want to get rid of the trusted uploader system. Why don't you just do it now then, what's the wait, surely you just have to just untick a box and there, problem solved. Hapenned quick enough to me

I think stopping the trusted uploader thing is the right thing to do. It improves security and won't make people seem better than others. I think we should give Matt a break and let him get on with what he thinks is right. I know it would be good to put stuff on UKTS immediately ( updates etc ) but we have to remember that if security is breached then we may not have UKTS at all. And we don't want that happening now, do we.
