It may just be me but I've tried downloading both the alston and thaxted branches but when I come to unzip them both into the routes or temp folders all I get is a message saying that the files are corrupt, on closer inspection it states that the file offset is incorrect?

nope, the files are all fine - they are uploaded as spanned zips, and you will need to do some unzipping and renaming steps to clean them up ready for the final big unzip operation to succeed.
The topic of these files (and others) have been brought up many times in the forums - have a look for "spanned zip" in the forums and you should find lots of help, also have a read of this:

It covers installing a couple of other routes, but the procedures are going to be very similar indeed and there are some useful general tips.
