msts multiplayer

Post by seandaly »

Why dosent uktrainsim start up a msts multiplayer. Lots of people would use it. i know there is one on another site, but i cannot see why we can not have one here. It is a very big site al the same. If it is about cost then there should be a fee for the year.
Does anyone want to join msts ireland. it is a msn group. The address is http://groups.msn.com/MstsIreland/_

Also my Irish Transport forum.

It is not possible to do multiplayer in MSTS without applying lots of imagination and if we put something to that effect on the site people would get the wrong idea and there we'd spend all our time explaining that MSTS can't actually do multiplayer.

The way the MP set up is done on Train-sim.com it's essentially an American railroading style, no timetable, almost all freights and continuous 2-way radio contact with a dispatcher over a long single track line with passing loops.

The UK style of running a railway either steam era or modern era just does not suit even this kind of multiplayer.

I think if you want to experience this MP game you'll have to join the Yanks and run American trains.

But it would be fun running a service and saying hi to the driver of the train you just overtook :D

This can be done in flight sim, i wonder how hard it would be to look at how that is done and try and apply it to our sim?

Nick, it's dead simple, just read the posts on here about MSTS multiplayer (I've gone into all the detail necessary) or read the posts in the Multiplayer forum over at Train-sim.com (you don't have to subscribe or login to just read).

All we might ask of Matt is if UKTS could run a Teamspeak2 server for the voice comms.

Perfectly happy to do this if it's going to be used, and since I have to pay for it (being commercial) - even though it's not expensive - i'd like to know how many people are likely to use it... :)

If just a handful of people want it, that's good enough, I don't see wasting even $30 on the latest fad if it's going to be tried and abandoned in a week though :)

I also need to make sure I get a license big enough - so if more than 25 concurrent users are going to need to get on i'll need a bigger license of course. License costs are cheap, I don't mind paying them in the slightest, just want to make sure it'll be used.

But isnt this just driving train sim on your own pc, not connected to anyone else and just talking to people over a mic? Its not exactly that train that drove past you is another player is it?
