CD Orders and Cookies
I am unable to access the CD order page (refresh makes no difference). I get the message about cookies and even though I have changed my setting to accept all cookies, closed ad-blockers, firewalls etc I can make no progress. I have no problem in accessing any other internet sites at any other addresses with my default settings and am somewhat perplexed as to a) why this problem should arise and b) why the site insists on receving cookies anyway, when that is not a requirement from any other sites I access. I just cannot get into the CD ordering system from work, and had problems getting in at home. I did once manage to get in, but I hit the credit card button instead of the cheque button by mistake, and there was no way of getting back. Even after shutting down and logging in again, going to the CD ordering took me straight to the credit card page. (I did not want to use credit card because there is no way of specifying different delivery and billing addresses).

The current system isn't very good, and I raised a number of these points with Steve when he wrote it and just got a load of grump back, fairly typical.
When you get the front screen that says about cookies, press CTRL-F5 and see if it then gives you the username/password prompt.
We did try switching the cookie thing off briefly to see if it would still work and it all broke horribly, not sure why but at some point I will try to spend a few minutes and see if I can find out and fix it so it doesn't need the cookies.
Matt.

Hi Matt
I just ordered the North West England Route V2.0 with no Problems
I always get the advice to click Refresh and that gets me straight into CD Ordering
I have the following activated:-
Norton 2003 Anti Virus
Norton 2003 Firewall
McAfee Spam Killer
Security Setting set at High
Pop Up Killer
Each day I clear out my cookie file using Norton Clean Sweep
I am baffled as to why I can always get into CD ordering with no problems when others cannot
Regards
Mike

Well I finally gained access after a time of trial and error. I entered UKTrainSim without logging on and then clicked CD orders bringing up a request for me to sign on. When I signed on at this point only, I got through to CD orders. I had previously minimised my security settings and closed zone alarm etc but had no joy. I am on my 2nd string PC at the moment and it clearly behaves differently then my regular one. On the regular one I get through to CD orders by 'refreshing'. Mark

Well this is weird, On my PC upstairs which is on BT broadband I get straight in, I also get all thumbnail pictures just fine. On my PC downstairs which is NTL Cable broadband I get real hassle trying to access the CD ordering page and the picture thumbnails all show little "x" instead if piccie. I cant work this one out and just assume its something to do with NTL

I'm on Time Warner Cable's Broadband in the US; hardware firewall in my router, AVG virus checking, medium security in W2k and I get in to CDs these days without trouble every time after the usual refresh (it doesn't believe Opera runs cookies till you kick it, then it's happy).

Nah the problem is that the cookie isn't there on the first request, but the page that says "you have no cookies" contains a cookie - so when you refresh it the cookie is sent back to the server and it lets you in, if your cookies are disabled/filtered then it will not send the cookie back and hence you get stuck on that page all the time.

Since going broadband, I can not get into CD ordering, even when firewall and anti-virus are turned off, security is minimised, and cookies are welcomed - I have raised this problem before, to no avail, andam as baffled as everyone else seems to be.
One point comes to mind - the "refresh" page states that my computer is not sending cookies - This is hard to understand, as cookies are sent to a PC from a server, and are not normally broadcast from a pc when one logs on to a remote system.

At the third pip, it will be time to open another beer.
