Am I the Only One Having Problems With Downloads?

Post by BobLatimer »

I have been trying for a couple of days now to download the Whistler and Western Ultimate sound sets with no luck.

Is it me or are there still problems wiht the new server?

If anyone else is having problems with downloads please shout loud now!

Bob - is it just those files, or all of them that won't work?

Perhaps helpful if everyone could say what means they are using to download and what browser? E.g. for me it would be:

Internet explorer 6 + Getright 5.02

Beta 4a version of the viewer was a corrupted file for a while this afternoon... now fixed

- it is only a minor change from beta 4 and not really worth the update unless you have vanishing parts of models.

Can you try it without DAP and let me know if that does the same thing?

Which file are you downloading?

Matt,

Thanks for the e-mail reply at what seems to be a bit of a stressful time.

I'm using IE6.

I have now managed to download the files. The problem appears to be with the bigger files. After I hit the download arrow, a progress bar appears at the bottom of the screen. On the bigger files it moved very slowly and yesterday never reached the end. Today it still moves very slowly but does reach the end and the download window opens.

I'll try it with GetRight at home tonight and see if that works now.

Regards,

Bob.

Hi Bob,

I had a brainwave, realised I recognised your username and checked the download script - you are in there as one of the exclusions to the normal download mechanism, i.e. normally it redirects you to the new (at the time) download mechanism via the java server as opposed to the really original way of doing it via a php script. You are currently going via the really old php script, this would have been done at request because of some compatibility issue but things have moved on possibly from both our perspectives so would you like me to switch you to the new(er) mechanism and see how that goes? I can always move you back if it gets worse.

Matt,

I seem to recall last time you had a major change I had problems, so that probably explains my "special" arrangement.

I'm now trying to download the latest SWLR patch and can't get to the end of the download - it kicks me off about half way through with a "connection to server reset" message.

Please switch me back to "normal" and we'll see what happens.

Regards,

Bob.

Matt,

It works, it works!!! With and without GetRight.

Thanks very much for your help (although, I must admit, it was nice to be special for a while).

Regards,

Bob.
