Pushing UKTS exposure... an idea
After reading the very interesting magazine thread an idea hit me. It was said that Games magazines don't offer much in the way of MSTS news or info. Well what if we gave it to them?
What I propose is allowing a magazine (and a fairly grown up one at that) to use some of the UKTS downloads on a coverdisk. PC Format have already given us the Kuju Deltic and a short route-building tutorial, so they would be a good approach point. PC Format also gave MSTS a 2 page glowing review so they know about the sim already.
We could get together perhaps one of the shorter or older routes, some activities, and some stock and in return perhaps get a free advert in the mag itself promoting UKTS. If the readmes for each also promoted the site this would also be a godsend. It's just another way of getting the message that MSTS is customisable out to more people. It may even persuade a few more to get MSTS out of the cupboard again.
So what does everyone think? There must be a few of us that would let stuff go on a coverdisk...

Just a thought
How many people buying the magazine will have MSTS to load the addons? It's all very well buying a magazine to iscover stuff for MSTS, but it's no use if these people don't have/want MSTS itself.

Either way, both sides benefit; the magazine gets stuff to fill up its CDs (which lets face it are usually full of junk anyway) and this site gets promotion. I am presuming that something like this could be incorporated into a a cover disk with all the usual demos and odd bits and bobs that come with this sort of thing; so the magazine already has spent its money on the CD, so why not use it properly. How much (really) does a CD cost 50p or so? Its worth checking out anyway.
THere are two markets here really. (1) who have bought MSTS and just got bored with it. (2) Those who haven't bought MSTS but would be those look at it (screenshots of all the stuff should come with the downloads) and then perhaps consider buying the product that they really hadn't thought about before.
As for the content, diversity is the key; a little bit of everything does you good! But it must be done well

Good point .... I would suggest it contains a proportion of stuff which can be played on the average PC .... screenshots and a bit of background .... in the style of the HTML page by the trainsim e-magazine
Edited to say "I would suggest it contains a proportion of stuff which can be played on the average PC" meant information which could be shown on a PC without MSTS .... articles .... screenshots etc.

I would be willing to have my sounds included if they are applicable to the included stock. However, as a courtesy I'd want to clear it with the numerous authors of the sound files I have used (even though they have already given permission for me to upload them to UKTrainsim).
