Help FTP & HTTP uploads not working

Post by crompton »

Hi Atomic

I have just spent 2 hours trying to upload 2 files, the first an update to 47192 which I tried using the http update facility but which allways times out right at the end of the upload - AAAARRRGGGHHH.
I have now ftp'd the file in along with a set of HTV hoppers which are clearly visible on the server with the correct file names etc but which aren't showing up in my personal folder.

Please help before I give up.

Cheers

Will take a look - can I stress that urgent problems such as this need to be emailed to me to ensure I get them quickly, as I don't get much chance to read the forums anymore.

Apologies, I thought I had got upload all working properly.

Oh . what a mess.

Sincere apologies guys, *hanging head in shame*.

Quite how our tests proved this all worked was beyond me, but I can assure you we DID test it, apparently we didn't pay enough attention to what we were doing in the heat of things.

Still, i'm working on fixing it now and I should have all your uploads ready to go in to your personal mailbox very shortly.

In the short term, FTP up to 'sideload.uktrainsim.com' instead of 'ftp.uktrainsim.com', for a week or so, as it's likely that 'ftp.uktrainsim.com' will go to the wrong machine.

As for web upload, that'll be my next investigation.

Again, apologies to everyone. I'm once again trying to get time off work so that I can get everything working once and for all, let's hope I don't get made redundant again! :)

Ok I just tried HTTP based upload and that seemed to work very nicely, do you have any more information you can give me about that one ?

It might just be incompatible with your ISP (many of them limit the size of uploads via the web). FTP based sideload shoudl be back working shortly.

Ok, Sideload is now tested and working.

I've moved all the files that were uploaded to the old server across to the new one and run a test on one of Cromptons files and that went in just fine (using my user account, file then deleted) - so if you have files you were expecting to see then just go in to your file library and you should see them imported ready for you to configure up.

So remember, ftp files to "sideload.uktrainsim.com" for a couple of weeks until your ISP takes the update of the address for the ftp server.

To find out what you're getting:

Start / Run / Command (on 95/98/Me)
Start / Run / Cmd (on 2k/XP)

Then type:

ping ftp.uktrainsim.com

If it says "pinging ftp.uktrainsim.com [128.242.246.221] with 32 bytes of data" (the important bit is the 128.242.246.221) then you are going to the right address, you can confirm this by typing "ping sideload.uktrainsim.com" and seeing the same address.

I will leave sideload.uktrainsim.com as a valid address so if you want to just keep using that then feel free.

All seems to be fine with this now, can someone please confirm / deny this for me so I can breathe again? :)

Matt.
