Moderated Posting?

Post by stephenholmes »

Good afternoon everyone
I am curious as to why my post on the open forum requires moderator approval?
I have tried submitting a post on the What was the First Train you went on thread
Kind regards Stephen

Hi Stephen

I have had this before but it was just a system glitch and the post went though after a few minutes.

Hi Stephen,

Just approved one of the two posts. As the 2nd was a copy of the original I did not approve that one.

They went for approval due to a match on a word check that is done on all posts. Sometimes it gets it wrong (as it did this time) and so there is a little delay before a moderator comes along and approves it for you.

Sorry about that.

I've just had this now on the S&D thread in the msts section.

Is this a glitch or due to the fact a mod has posted in it, can a certain thread be set for moderation approval before a post is made?

Hi Kieran, and others

Don't worry - you're not on moderated posting. it's just that in order to ensure that certain topics that are currently subject to legal restriction are not posted about, some key words have been flagged up by the forum software that automatically seek moderator approval before the post can go live on the forums. Apologies for the inconvenience, but it's not of our making.

How very odd... I've just experienced the same after writing what I thought was an entirely innocuous post on the RS.com showcase thread, attempting to clarify some puzzlement evident in previous discussion about Tadpoles and Hastings units. I cannot think which words I used that others in previous comments within the thread had not already used - on the basis of your comments, Ash, I assume they would all have had their posts go through approval too?

I have subsequently commented in another thread (about reskinning the forthcoming 421) and no approval was required. I'm now trying to work out which words I need to avoid so that I can make comments in a timely and helpful manner and not have them delayed because of the approval process :-?

HI There,

Don't add the word "Dutchess" into your thread, it is guaranteed a delay

A post made a few minutes ago was annotated that it needed moderator approval, to which I have no problem. I assume that one word or more has flagged up as "iffy" in terms of the checking programme.

However I was wondering whether it would be possible to indicate what words are considered "verbotten"!

PS It reminds me of a place where I worked where the use of the county names Middlesex and Essex caused consternation in the computer system for obvious reasons.

This has all come about due to this : http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 6&t=113066

The list of words that trigger posts to be sent for approval is not being disclosed but anybody with half an imagination should be able to guess a good chunk of them.
Kindest regards

Like your avatar I am often easily confused over all things computer et al, but in this case I'm totally confused, as for the life of me I can not see how my post on Class 202 (6L) DEMUs relates to the referenced topic. My post was MSTS related whilst the referenced topic is RW related! :o :o

Still . . . the world's still turning!

It is purely a word filter. If you happened to have included one of the "watch" words then it goes for moderation. It does not look at the context of the post or anything like that.

Is a perfect example. I could be talking about the Duchess of York (HRH) rather than steam train. The context is irrelevant. The words are not.

It took me a while to work out why, but eventually the penny dropped!
The filter is picking up characters that form part of other words or combinations of characters, as in Alec's county name examples!
