Many, many thanks for all the kind words...and I'm brave enough to admit I had a tear in my eye after reading all the comments.

Just to clarify my announcement...I'm not moving away from trainsimming completely. I'll still be popping in from time to time...and my name may appear on occasions.

Cheers for now....

UKTrainsim has lost a dedicated trainsimmer in you Doug and you have helped many beginners to the hobby at all the shows you have attended over the years. Although there are certain people within the community that can often change your feelings, you are amongst the best of us. You will be sadly missed by those who have come to know you as I have done and I'm sure Laurie would have been upset to if he was still with us, as you and Laurie were the closest of friends. Your expertise in MSTS is second to none and I am sure that your knowledge in this hobby will be missed by many of us.
But I am pleased to hear that you are not abandoning us altogether and may pop in now and again on the forums, but I respect your reasons for leaving the moderating team and wish you all the success at Crich, where I too spent many years as an active member.

At least you know, you still have many frieds amongst us lot. All the best Doug.

Regards
Geoff

Welcome to the select group of former moderators, lurkers and general hangers on...

Was a pleasure firstly to work with you, even with the occasional spar and even more to finally put a face to the name, so to speak, at Crich in May (your talk on the trams is excellent by the way :P ).

I only check these boards once every few months or so now but it does seem that whenever I do the news is never something I would welcome, I must be a jonah of some description.

Take care Mr K!

Dear Doug,

As I read this Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds came on the player, and a tear comes to my eye. It's very sad to see you go, and even as forum member that is not a moderator, I can see that the work that you and the other's do is unfathomably large, and I can only assume all the people who decide to do these, (for once) for want of a worse word, stupid things, are now no longer on the forums.

This sad loss of you just shows what stress, and hard work that the mods put into the forums on a day to day basis. The job that these people do is crucial to the day-to-day running of the forums, and what keeps disputes from happening. Sometimes I think that people do not realise that the mods do this job for nothing, and completely out of their own will. It is almost ludicrous that people give threats of LEGAL ACTION against people who are there to enforce the rules that they AGREED TO when they joined the forums in the first place, or even make false claims about someone, who virtually everyone knows, via forums or face-to-face, trusts, and likes to the point where the statements made about/against him are virtually unbelieveable.

I've seen similar things happen to other mods on other forums, some have come out much better, by virtually ignoring it, or others come out much worse than this, to the point of suicide, luckily, none I have known to take their own life, and most react in the range from ignoring what has happened, to what you have done. PLease, just remember that when legal action is threatened, the same amount of salt should be applied to that threat that was applied to every pack of chips bought in Blackpool throughout the whole of time. Chances are they don't have legal support, due to the fact that the action taken against them was binding, to the letter, of the contract that they signed when they joined, and probably because they wouldn't have the 'noggin' (as someone likes to say at school) to take legal action, when they truly know what they are doing is morally dire.

By the reaction you have made to each individual simulator, it seem like that the people that have upset you, are off of one simulator. And as a person who's contribution to UKTS has been of only that simulator, I can see why you have done so, but also why I haven't done so. It is a shame that such 'people' exist, and they are usually recognisable as the 'people' who appear as if in a flash, and then magically disappear without trace, as if in a sudden (I use quotes around the word 'people' because I have no proof that these are different people). The other trait they contain is that they usually moan on general discussion, and don't contribute for the better of that simulator. The reason why I usually ignore this is for two reasons.
a.) I am not a mod, meaning I do not have a duty to read this rubbish, and then respond in an appropriate manner.
b.) I try and not contribute to general discussion, where they reside, and instead contribute to other boards for that simulator, where, generally, people are more kind, open minded, and contribute in a apositive manner.
This is why I have not. It also shows that the fun, helpful atmosphere that tran-simming has, is still there, it's just one board that has been infected.

And finally, I would like to thank you, for all you have done. A quick file search produces a number of files that you have contributed, and out of a random pick of ten, one is an asset for MSTS, another is a tram, then there's the Crich route, and finally 7, yes, 7, tutorials on various things from getting an asset into MSTS, to production of FSX assets, through to transparencies, via the first steps of 3DC. People may ask: What's the point of you making these tutorials? Well, let me anser them for you. These tutorials inspire people, to have a go, to bite the bullet, and to get stuck in. We will never know how many items that have been uploaded to UKTS, and other websites, were as a result of your tutorials, but we can expect this value to be in the hundreds, if not, then in the thousands.

On a lighter note, I hope the person who caused you to do this understands what he has done. You see, he has pulled me away from the Route building challenge for over an hour now, meaning that I am now an hour behind on my timetable. I hope he is sorry for what he has done.

And now Ticket to Ride Plays.

thanks for the aid Doug,

chaddockdk
