Mini tramroute

Hi,

I started on a mini tram route last night

I know we have MCT so im not sure if i shoudl go for an older style or what though i have started reducing the service to single track sections as was common early 20th centuary (Dundee stayed this way til lthe end with the trams running in the center and overtaking on the left)

So i think that my plan has led to an older style anyway
So it really only leads to me to ask... how high shoudl the wires be.... this really means i haven't got round to putting in a blackpool tram yet to test it all.

As usual i will probably release an unscenerised version before a scenerised one. not sure how im gonig to deal with motor cars though.... or in any case, ponys and traps :P

From Vern's TSUK_FYLDE.trk

Code: Select all

...
OverheadWireHeight ( 6.1 )
...
So I'd suggest you use 6.1m as your wire height!

I think you could best do a mini tram route based on somewhere rather than a factional mini tram route.

I still hanker after doing the Seaton Tramway.

Perhaps that is something I should look at to get back into route building!

Wht about the Crich tramway Museum, as a great variety of trams could be used there (thinking of the Blackpool coronations, toaster, and liverpool green goddess)???

I did think maybe about extending the tramway to Seaton Jn, so you can have the MS Class 50's chugging by on the mainline as you wait to depart

Now I've got round to reinstalling MSTS, I may take a look, at least survey the terrain in TS Tools.

Crich,

Problem 1: I haven't a clue what the tracks like
Problem 2: Its a very long distance away from me
Problem 3: See problem 2
Problem 4: Got to 1
Problem 5: Its out of character for me to build soemthing that actually exists.

Current problem with what i am building is that i can't get track steep enough. In some senses the route is being inspired by Dundee (ie theres a bloody steep hill that the trams can't go up) and that out of the centre its single track.

I also lack the patience, time, skill and interest to produce something that once existed or still exists. Im am much more interested in creating something out of what i want.

Lay your track, press Y to change the gradient to the maximum allowed. Press T and then Y again and lift the gradient once more. Keep pressing T when you reach the maximum and you can get it more steeper than 3.0 degrees.

Yep, sorry... my mistake (not been in route editor for a while)

Try this instead...

Lay your track, select your track. press F4 and move mouse to change the gradient to the maximum allowed. Press T and then F4 again and lift the gradient once more. Keep pressing T when you reach the maximum and you can get it more steeper than 3.0 degrees.

When complete press Y to bring land upto track level.

If T doesn't work the first time, press it again!

Hope this helps
Chris

yep eventually got it.

Got the line at the top of the town now or at least on one side and realised that i shoudl have put in a tile to deal with the area behind the town centre... douh.

Big Vern

You can do whatever you want, all your work is first class, just look at the extra MSTS interest with your Blackpool route, that comming after all your superb railway routes.

Well the idea is starting to grow, I've got a few days off work now so may fire things up and see how it goes. If I do it, I might use standard gauge to maximise compatability with the existing tram models, rather than the true narrow gauge.

Hi Vern, just managed to grab an hour or two on the computer, and just noticed this topic which Niall started. Not been on the forums much these past few weeks due to over work.

I like your idea of the Seaton Tramway, it would be an added bonus for the Tram Scene. I agree about you doing it in Standard Gauge, so that existing stock can run on it, otherwise a complete new size of tram would have to be built.

Another possibility would be the Llandudno - Colwyn Bay Tramway, which only ran for about ten miles or so, with a bit of every type of scenery, from town/country/seaside at Rhos-on-Sea (and where the depot was situated). :D

Glad to hear that you have been inspired to build another Tram Route. Your Blackpool Route has exceeded all expectations, and has well and truly been in the forefront of UKtrainsim since it became available.
:D :D :D

Good luck with your route too Niall, send us some screen shots when you can.
