Mini tramroute
Moderator: Moderators
I have made a start (sort of), though got a bit disillusioned when starting to cut out the river bed get the usual "adjacent piece not loaded" error message from road sections, then the TDB rebuild decided to go off in the great white void. Really beginning to think I've had enough of this programme!

I can understand your frustrations with MSTS route building Vern, but if you do manage to sort it out, it will be great news.
Chris (our tram builder) is proposing to have a go at the Llandudno - Colwyn Bay Route, but he is waiting until the relaease of the new Trainmaster Simulator, which is supposed to be compatable with the presnt MSTS.
We are all behind you on the Seaton Vern, but don't do it if you think it would be wise to wait for the new Simulator before you do any more tram routes.
I think everyone here on the Tram Forum's will agree with me.

Well I'm still going to have a crack at it as and when I get a chance as it's not a large project by any means. Just venting usual frustration at the RE! I certainly don't think I could deal with the stress of another long route though. Still worth doing these short line projects for MSTS (subject to vagaries of the RE) as it will be a while yet I think before we see working versions of the new programmes.

Well done Vern, glad to hear you are still going to have a go at it.
I suppose it will be quite a while before the new sim is up and running, as like most new product's, they don't always meet the expected release dates. But it should be miles better than MSTS when it is finally available.
Can you open a new Topic for the Seaton Route please, as this one was originally for Niall's new route.
Cheers.

My Route:
oh er update:
er:
Quite a simple route really, working on my road sections just now to replace the standard ones, they wont' be proper road pieces so no horse and cart spawning
But the actual route is basically finished, theres more skill required in getting from the extremities of the town to the center than gonig the other way. Theres also a railway section as well

Once this is turned into an avenue of posh houses the poly counts going to be quite high.
The poles are part of the pavement, this is to try and cut down on object count

I was thinking about adding the wires,
What i won't be able to add is the insulators.
I am also unsure of how i will be doing the town center stuff, looking at Aberdeen pics the span wires were going from building to building when the situation allowed.
I am most likley not going to use any central poles though there is a section where this would look right, why? Cos they are too bloody decorative, Dundee still has central poles (they were never removed) though its only on a pedestrianised section.
The Poles are losley based on those used in Dundee and Aberdeen.
I have also managed to create a section with the trams running on the wrong side of the road
I need tp get a good picture of setts for the road surface.
An issue i realised last night was that in the perios im aiming for there could have been a whole range of surfaces
Setts on tram routes and dirt or tar on other routes, im also going to need to add some cart rails as well, until recently there was a couple of good set of these in dundee though ones gone and i fear another might (curently covered by the renovation on the former Arnots store)

This looks good Niall, it will look even better, when you have added the buildings. I also like your idea of cobble sets, this will give it more of a period look.
You will have to see if Chris will build you some Dundee Lochee Trams. He has already got a set of plans for the Aberdeen Streamliner bogie tram. These with a few more Glasgow trams, will give it the Scottish feeling, which is what you are probably aiming for.
Keep at it, you are doing very well indeed.

He He He....
The road layouts nothing like Dundee or Aberdeen
But since im basing the clutter on those cities i might as well as add
Wallaces Bakeries and Rowie shops.
I have added the span wires, and now having a problem with some of the shapes not appearing as they do in GMAX (but hey whats new)
Also went out the back and got a picture of a dirt road and got some cobbles from the old goods yard (there is jsut a sudden little patch of them, possible that NBR considered upgrading the farmers access to the lien with a surfaced road).
This may lead to me having a shot at parts of dundee (Some sections have hardly changed, some have changed quite a bit and some a totally gone)(Extremities of Perth road, Nethergate and West Port, Most of Lochee)
Dundee Cars:
The later dundee cars all look similar though they have varying widths and lengths, nearly all of them were conversions of Balcony cars)
In fact on some sections the passing sections were so tight and close together, to run a Lochee car woudl have resulted in 2 very broken trams.

The cobbled surface, the texture needs a bit of work to look right (ive not even removed the weeds)
Changing the tiling for the road from 100m to 1m seems to be whats causing the problem as seen below
<IMG width="640" height="640" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php ... oblemo.jpg">
As you can see the base of the road has moved about 5m forwards from the pavement... or has the pavement moved backwards?
That is with a 40m long flat section, when it was 4 10m sections it jumped forwards by about 20m
Turn off the texture scaling and its fine so im probably gonig to have to go back to 10m sections (more polys) and making the texture work from that.
Checked it out in ecaponds Shape Viewer and its def not just MSTS throwing a wobbly its the gamepack not producing the shape right (nothing abnormal)
Once the straights are done ive got to do the corners.
And im not overly happy with the position of the standards in the pavement.

<IMG width="1024" height="819" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php ... Bridge.jpg">
And yet another screen shot, one of 3 bridges in the route, this is the only one the trams go under at this stage.
The Tram does not pass over the line.
This is another section i need to get near perfect, you may notice that the trolley lines only just pass under the bridge, not quite as dramatic as on Aberdeens Holborn street where the building of the Great North of Scotland Railway forced bow collectors to as low as they could go and that was with a massive dip added into the road.
For now i will pretend that either the GNSR, Highland, NBR or Calley has borrowed a Midland Single.
I think the housing is going to be the last items applied to this route, other than mabey signaling (so you can have more than 1 tram running) and Stations on the railway so that the traffic can stop.
Its quite strange parking the tram and listening to the train running throguh the tunnel, if only i would whistle
