C&S ng
Colorado and Southpark ng route
Has anyone else downloaded this extensive American route?
I have, and have run into difficulties. the route is in four parts, the original plus three extensions.
I stayed with the original route and checked it with Route Riter; there were a number of sms files which were apparently wrongly placed and these appear to have been corrected and two or three missing texture files.
The Activities folders contains a single folder named "Activities using Speesdster-Up services" and the Services folder contains a single folder named "Speedster-UP services for activities" Both these sub folders contain a lot of activities and services respectivley.
The Paths folder contains many paths and also another folder named "More paths for Speedster-UP activities"
Opening any of the activities in the subfolder shows that in none of them is any stock included in the text.
I have tried to open the route in several ways without success. I cannot open create a new activity because the Activity Editor freezes at the point where I enter New for Player path. Train Store and Activity Analyser also seem helpless.
I would be grateful for any bright ideas.

Re: C&S ng
Tony, I have the C&S (Colorado and Southern) installed and working okay, although I don't have the later additions. You require xtrack and newroads, do you have them installed?
If you're interested in US NG, let me know by PM and I can put you in contact with a group who may be able to sort out your problem. I use the C&S to beta test my US locos.

The screenshot was taken on the C&S.
Cheers Bazza

Re: C&S ng
Bazza,
I have all the necessary add-ons and the updated t.sections I am rather puzzled because the route checks out OK with the usual programs - only two missing textures etc. but won't let me do or create any activities.
Do you have any of the " Activites for use with Speedster-UP" if so do they have stock included?
Part of the problem, may be that I do not fully understand the Read me which is 7 pages long. There are detailed intrsuctions about activities and exploring the route which have me confused!
I understand that Elvas Tower is a good site for this route, but haven't yet searched it.

The Southpark division of C&S I don't have, but if you pm me a list of the missing ace I'll see what I can do. I have speeder activities in sub-folders, but no idea where to find the speeder - althought I recollect reference to it somewhere. The speeder is a small MoW crew mover. I'll PM you.

Re: C&S ng
The Speedster used in the activities is a payware one - I bought it - but there are others available for download on Trainsim.com. All you need to do is edit the consist(s) to use them.
I've installed all the extensions as they have been released with no problems.
Are you running the AE in 16-bit colour? Try running AE on one of the default routes first, and turn off most of the views before trying C&S.

Thank you all for your advice; for the moment I have to put C&S ng on one side because of other things, but I will revisit it in due course.

Yes, I do have that one, I just checked the name again during a beta test. I'm sure we can get you up and running.

Re: C&S ng
Mea culpa Tony - Speedster_UP is not payware, search for speed-up.zip in the Trainsim.com download library.

Alan,
Thanks for that tip. I now have the Speedster. It's nothing like I expected!

Re: C&S ng
Yes Tony
It's a pity there are no 'real' activities for this route - the speedster activities are just included to help you explore, I think. One day I might get around to making some - perhaps!

Re: C&S ng
I have at last done a little exploring of part 1 of this big route. It has been an interesting experience.
Considering the vast mileage covered the scenic setting is very good in parts; ow far it is accurate is anybody's guess.
The trackwork around Denver station with its extensive 3 rail dual gauge sections is almost incomprehensible in places, with various crossings on the level.
As for the Speedsters used for the exploratory activites --- well let me say they are "interesting" I have not met these weird contraptions before. The wheels are rather like road rollers, in fact I am still not sure whether they are actually rail or road vehicles. The wheels do not run on the rails of either gauge, seemimg to straddle the running rails.
The throttle control using the keyboard has two settings idling, or flat out. Anf it is not immediately clear that you have to download another speedster to get vital files before the thing can run
I must see now whether the three additional parts can be loaded

Re: C&S ng
The golden rule for US NG consists is to be aware that on some ruling grades the trains were very short, sometimes only a few wagons and caboose. Some of the mountain grade sections were very Licky-like. You can find suitable locomotives (ahem!) and rolling stock over at Elvas Tower.

Re: C&S ng
Thanks for bringing this route to my attention Tony, some of the mountainous sections are great fun to drive even if the speed limits are a bit optimistic. I also like the sections where two railroads run side by side plenty of scope for some racing activities
It all worked fine when i installed it, all i can suggest is you delete it and try again and make sure you install the parts in order.

Re: C&S ng
Tim,
I do not have problems with the route itself, at least as far as part1 is concerned - I still have to install the other three sections.
It is the activities . the way they are packed, and those wretched Speedsters which cause frustration. I have now downloaded some "proper" Sumpter Valley stock and created more realistic consists.
Having said that, I have not yet worked out how to get the three pieces of the svr250 Mallet proper;y joined up.

Re: C&S ng
On the tank engine version of the mallet the pony truck appears a freight vehicle while the other 2 bits are steam locos they are lettered a,b and c in the s files but not in the eng files so you have to guess which of the last 2 are which.
There also a Rio Grande C28 on train-sim.com which suits the route if you haven't found it yet its a shame the K36 model is the wrong scale though.
