Narrow Gauge msts platform request

Post by clay001 »

I've been building a truescale route recently, and not being an msts model maker have cobbled together a list of suitable scenery items to use from the ukts library. Only thing 'extra' I need at the moment are plain platforms suitable for a narrow gauge route, is there any one within the forum who could spare me such a thing?. If so, it would be a huge help.

Many thanks,

Clay.

Hello,

Ideally, ones that were in the region of 40m, 65m and 95m, all for straight track (one terminus is very loosely styled on the arrangement at Lynton, though the route is entirely fictious).
Any help, in any way would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.

There was not much standardisation in narrow gauge line platforms, ranging from a bit of hard core to something like a scaled down standard gauge affair. To some extent, anything goes!

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of a 'scaled down standard gauge affair' - While it would be great if any one can help or, say, has some thing already handy if not I'll just have to put my 'thinking cap' on...if I can find it :) .

You can do that in a few minutes by scaling down std gauge shapes with ShapeFile Manager. Once rescaled, rename the s and sd to what you want and edit the sd to point to the new file name.

If your original shapes match some std gauge track lengths, the scaling factor for UKNarrowGauge is 50%. 3-foot gauge is 60%, and so on. That how the original add-in track shapes were made...

Thanks for the tip Charlie, certainly SFM seems to be the road available for me.

Thought I might as well try and load up a couple of early screenshots, I realise this is hardly earth shattering stuff but it's the most I've managed yet with re, and it can't be too long before the route goes "Cloverfield."
Purely fictious Ng line is about 10 miles long, I like to use the lovely L&B stock at ukts (might call it Lynbridge & Branstaple, which took me moments to think up) and the line makes connection with a GW branch.

GW railcar arriving at Branstaple (GW).

Yeo south bound heading towards Branstaple.

Course of the route a few miles out from Branstaple.

Shot of the very basic transfer facilities.

By jove it worked!! :D

Next up is road laying, which doesn't seem very exciting really but never mind. The grand plan is to just keep plugging away at it as time allows.

Thanks for the kind comment Kevin, coming from some one such as your self who's contributed so much for train sim narrow gauge it's great encouragement :) .

There's plenty of those :D - If I can get the route to an uploadable standard in the future perhaps some people might think it a suitable mountaninous enviroment for the truescale FR & WHR stock at ukts, though I like using the L&B stuff when testing.

Many thanks.

It's a good start. Some people get scared off before they even get to where you are. I think the building is a bit close to the rails in one of the shots, but it is looking interesting nonetheless.

You mean the Goods Shed doors in the first pic?, I agree :) , although the doors seem a little chunky as they're the same on both sides of the track (I think...). Maybe I could replace the building eventually (although I think it looks nice), but the main point of interest for me is the narrow gauge line so that's what I'm concentrating on for now (there's only about a mile of standard gauge track as the GW presence is meant to merely represent the ng/sg connection).

Many thanks.

Just had a quick peek in re, and in fairness I could've positioned the Goods Shed better which I'll do soon.
I realise I could be in danger of being "moderated" but here's a last couple of screenshots of the route, I won't upload any more unless (hopefully) substantial progress has been made.

Yeo with a 5 coach Lynbridge-Branstaple working at one of the intermediate stations, maybe to be named Yeotown or Execombe?

Yeo not long after leaving Lynbridge, soon to enter the more mountainous section of the route.

Thanks to you all for the encouragement.
