Another Welsh NG railway book - Jennie

Post by CaptainBazza »

Another find! Jennie - 1958 - J B Snell - Welsh railroad story, blurb:
London: Thomas Nelson & Sons, 1958, first edition, 175pp
Illust by G K Sewell

Green cloth boards with prictorial dustwrapper.
Numerous black and white illustrations, maps of "Gwernal Valley Railway" to endpapers.

Owen Roberts was 15 when he joined the new railway company among the Welsh slate quarries. Jennie arrived soon after him, and the two of them grew old together. This is a story of triumphs and troubles, success and failures, among the Welsh hills. A story where son succeeds father and where grandson take over. A human story, in which the engines that pull the trains seem almost human too.

Seems like the correct name is Gwernol.

Turns out the original "Gwernal Valley Railway" is correct, this is a work of fiction, no big deal, it looks like it's going to be a fascinating read.
