I'm sorry, i thought people posted their work here for comments and criticisms. If you can't take criticisms don't ask for them.

As i said before, you can model however you like, but if that model's going onto a public server for download then it's their business as well, not totally, but to an extent.

Tom, you may well have the best of intentions but you're 'teaching granny how to suck eggs' with Kev and others who've proved themselves time and time again.
The responses I've read show a withering effect on the patience of fine modellers but admit no one comment would be problem if taken alone.
He, like others, posts screenshots partly to boost his own enthusiasm for building models at a time when others have given up.
I admit there's a fine line between advice and criticism and people can easily be misunderstood but I reckon most would agree that it's best to err on the side of encouragement.
If you're wondering what it has to do with me, the answer is that Kev is a very good friend and a man of few words on the forums. His models speak for themselves and he's well respected being one of the 'old school'.
No one doubts you have talent but my advice would be to hone that talent, upload something so that we may be able to make comparisions and you will be able to speak to other modellers having experience of the 'rough and tumble' uploading produces. Some couldn't hack it and gave up. I'm sure you wouldn't want to be even in part responsible for anyone throwing in the towel before you'd been in the ring yourself

Gothick, I post here to let people know what I am working on. As said before I am well aware of efficient modelling methods (I have done enough of it). I have looked at your mentioned model and compared it to Gowrie. The fact that Gowrie is a more complex model then Markeaton Lady and still has a lower poly count, at the moment, seems to indicate that efficient modelling techniques have been used.
As my models are provided for free, then as long as I know they will work ok, then that is all that counts. I will never knowingly upload a model that could cause problems. I have supplied models to several "real" railway sites and am well aware of the the problems that could ensue.

I can see your point, but at the end of the day the golden rule with any MSTS model is: if you don't like it, don't download it
I have great respect for both you and Kevin's modelling abilities, so I want to try to avoid taking sides. But I will say that I'm sure Kevin knows what he's doing. [Edit: I was typing this while Kevin was posting the post above, in which he's made it clear that he does indeed know what he's doing!] Also, bear in mind that Decapod's Shape Fixer does the 11,000 poly limit to be overcome.
Bringing the thread back on topic, the model is looking excellent Kevin, very well done indeed.

Probably a good move for now.
You've been a bit too quick to "help" with other modellers in the past which is why I had a go at you a few months ago.
There's nothing wrong with constructive critisism. I'm often looking for that from my testers so I can improve the models.
You just need to ask yourself why people "shoot you down".
A bit of research first would be a good start (e.g. Kevin has made lots of good models and people like them, TSM does not handle vertex normals well, most people who make models know what they are doing technically etc)
Instead of suggesting the poly count would be overly high, how about asking what it is first?
It will get easier as you get older - I wish I could remember being your age

This model is looking better and better - I love the hornblocks on the rear bogie and the weights on the choppers. I bet you've found a clever way of handling the flexible steam pipes too!

My model is probably going to be in 2 parts, I suspect I can make the steam pipes as a reversed front bogie on the rear part so they rotate with bends in the tracks.

Paul and Kevin, they would look great in KRS, with it's ability to 'attach' more steam exhaust points. I should imagine the original would have experienced plenty of steam leaks in true Garrat fashion.

I would imagine Gowrie would leak quite a bit of steam from it's flexible joints. Will have to try putting extra steam effects on the Trainz version.
