Tripman, no worries, I just want to get thing right before release.

Kevin, like a lot of 'oddball' locomotives, they eventually grow on you. I've done a few narrow gauge steamers that I wasn't fussed on until I got into the project.

I'm currently tweaking Dusty's tender.

Must admit that I've found that to be true as well.

Cheers,

C2 conceptual Tank

Oddball made odder, C2 conceptual tank version. It is a logical conversion, too. Just a wee project while waiting for the first of the Americas' Cup races. 8)

The C2T developed the dreaded lockup in some views thus I decided to cut back the polys by rebuilding the driverset wheel cores (the bit excluding the rims. Althought untextured and untested in the sim, I've managed to save 500 polys per wheelset, bringing the single wheelset total down from just over 1,700 to a tad over 1,200 polys. The total polys saved over the 4 wheelsets is a nice 2,000, which should improve sim performance.

By rebuilding just the wheelset cores I don't lose the animation, which is retained by the rims and axles.

Does this mean the loco will become a definite tank or will you issue a version of both?

Yes, Jon, two versions providing this shape tweak fixes the POV crash.

I going to sic Paul's Shape Fixer onto it. SF worked for two other problem locos.

Hope this isn't too late, but is that a balance weight I spy on the trailing wheelset? :o Should that be there?

Yes, SL, it was, but no longer - I rebuilt the wheel core. Well spotted.

Incidentally, I struck an unusual problem with that later addition, it will not show in the sim when named wheels11 ~ 13, or wheels21 ~ 23. Bogie1 is allocated to the four driversets, so they track correctly through curves, and the trailing bogie is bogie2. My quickfix is to rename the trailing bogie wheelset to 'wheels' and because the wheels are quite 'round' you don't actually notice they're not rotating. They do track okay, though.

I didn't mean to cast aspersions on your model building. It's much better than mine. It's just that (apparently) I have a good eye for tiny details. Also, most of my knowledge of steam engines is below the footplate.

No worries, mate. At that stage of the conversion project it was easier/quicker to clone one of the driversets and use that. I eventually removed the wheelcore, leaving the rims, and then rebuilt the core.

Having a knowledgable 'independent' third-eye is a help, rather than a hinderance. Any constructive criticism is appreciated.

Never cast aspirsions on your modeling skills, we all learned the hard way and many models dropped offscreen during the process.

C2 update

Meanwhile, the other C2 (not the original) is still under development, here's an update pic. Thanks to Paul's Shape Fixer, this one was cured of the dreaded POV crash.

Still a tad under 16 thousand polys, with me gingerly adding more detail.
