Hi Tom,

Great work here, I had started sometime ago to build a CG loco cab (perhaps I ought to have another go), well done.
Please don’t take this as criticism, as it is not meant as any thing other than helpful advice about locomotive construction.
Some of the fittings you have made could do with more detail to give a greater feel of realism; the first obvious one is the regulator stuffing box. I have done a render of one I made up (about 5 mins work) which, although not complete (I forgot the backhead fixings) does give you some idea of what I’m trying to say.
If you want it, there are more suggestions.

Admittedly i had rushed a few bits and as a result they're not to the same standard as the others. I'll go about fixing that later today.

Tom, You are welcome to the mesh if you want? I can put it into 3DS.
Also notice that in your last render that you now have two reversers???
My own preferance is for a lever pole, very few British narrow gauge had screw reversers.

Another render, this time with a few fixing studs and nuts, there would normally be about six studs from the backhead onto which the stuffing box is mounted. Two of these studs are usually longer so that the stuffing ring (the oval shaped piece) can be tightened against the packing.
This model is quite inaccurate but is good enough to give the overall impression.
My studs are not very good (any ideas Tom?)

Cheers Andrew, if you sent the mesh over i'd be happy to implement it and credit you for it, i never really modelled the studs in great detail as i thought it unnecessary, but you've done a great job!

Studs are definitely to be preferred to set screws, but I don't like to see more than 1-1/2 threads clear of the nuts.

I have sent you a email, sorry.
I have also spent half an hour with a photo (knew I had some) of “LINDA” and done a proper regulator stuffing box. It is still not quite accurate but it is now very close.
Thought that I might do a few other bits, a sight feed lubricator and maybe a steam brake valve. If I can get the courage up I might even have a bash at a Dreadnought!

I've only just recovered from food poisoning, and have a lecture in a few minutes, so this is all i could throw together in the time i had.

Not sure about the colouring i've chosen.

One thing,you appear to have both a pole reverser and a screw reverser?
Also,any chance of some rivet heads in the backhead,cant say the all-cladded appearance looks quite right?

Well spotted, i've either been ill or exhausted throughout building this, so you'll have to excuse stupid errors.



Still not happy with it.

I'd personally go with a dirty cream colour for the insides of the cab, that way it is more generic, you won't need to have a green engine to use it with

Looking good BTW, more feel to it than a plain photograph could ever portray.
