Hmm, taking another look at Minfordd, is that wall going across the road, or is it flying in the wind like a kite?

Yup...

This got left behind when I last moved the bridge/road... one of the hundreds of little jobs that I never seem to get around to.

And the train under the bridge is a static 2 x scale Alphaline (Wales and West) Class 158 - don't know if it'll be in the final route as I haven't asked permission to use it yet from Dave Babb/Ben Laws... (another little job).

As I'm not a 3D modeller, there are very many objects on the route which have been downloaded, re-scaled (using sfm) and in some cases, re-textured (by editing the .ace file). I'm going to have to go back and do a thorough check before anything is released to make sure I don't upset anyone... - although my experience so far is that EVERY modeller I've approached has been pleased to help, and some have even sent me 'specials' to match my requirements. 'Trainsimmers' are clearly generous folk.

And I'll say again... most of the true FR objects (like most of the rolling stock) are down to Kevin.

Regards,

well its all looking rather good. I guess the 158 is realistic, are thier any older versions of the route planned? Ie steam age, as if so a praire and a rake of choc cream coaches would look nice!

It all looks wonderfull, well done to everyone who has helped so far, I look forward to downloading/ordering it. Especially like the 1930's Welsh Pony, wasnt there a picture of it at Duffws which was thought to show the livery?

I'd love to see a static consist here (and perhaps a 3 car green 101 with small yellow warning panels at Blaenau when you get there - it was one of the things I asked about some time back. In truth though the 158 *should* be in Snotrail (sorry Central Trains) livery with Alphaline branding but I don't know if anyone has done this variation yet - this is I believe the only route on which those particular 158s run (The whole Cambrian run that is: Birmingham - Aberystwyth and Machynlleth - Pwllheli) - and if that was to happen it would really need either a Reg Rail Green stripe fNW 156 or a blue with gold stars 150 at Blaenau - shame really, Daisy was so much nicer......

On the stock front, Kevin, could I make a request for some stock please, namely the 100 series of carriages (100, 101, 103, 104, 105, 106 and 107 as will be - and please please please 14), these are all of a reasonably generic body design so *should* be fairly easy to do once one has been done (except 103 and 104 which have had a redesigned body fitted - I'm digging a hole here aren't I) Its just that there is a noticeable lack of modern FR stock at the moment. Of course there are always the tin cars (110, 117-121), carnforths (112,3,4) and oddities (111, 116) and rebuilt spares (22 and 26) not to mention 11 and 12 - oh and a reskin of 17/18 into the same livery as 15, 19/20 into an all over dark purple as seen on 15, and the 2 tone 15 livery on 2 and 5 bug boxes in order to make up the forthcoming heritage train that is being done as we speak.... If I knew how to reskin (anybody?) I'd do em meself - stock building is however best left to the experts! I can be somehow useful in that I can provide photos if needed.........

John,
I have been requested to do all the Ffestiniog stock and these are being worked on. I will be making all the models you mention (but no release dates available yet).

Cheers

Has anyone got any photos of the FR loco Britomart i'm working on this engine at the moment but there seems to be a shortage of pictures of it.

This was my wife's (Lynette's) 21st Birthday special on 15th July 1992 - Gordon Rushton et al on the Footplate, and me as guard. Only went to Rhiw Goch and back, and ran out of beer, but lots of fun! I have a few more if there is anything specific you're after?

straying rapidly off topic here, et al would appear to be Jon Wol and a very young looking Dave Thurlow - I might just nick these for blackmail material! :) :) :) The question is, how on earth did they all manage to get on the footplate - its notoriously tiny up there.....

while we're on the subject of tiny spaces my mum who is an ex FR firewoman says that she once traveled in a bugbox with about 25 people most of them were sitting on other peoples knees.

Hi,

Here's a link to two drawings (side elevation and front elevation). They are for a generic alice class hunslet which I am building in 5" gauge!!
Its a big project and the drawings are big too! Looking at Britomart, it is an alice class and not a port class so should be almost the same. You will have to scale the loco accordingly as it is scaled to 5" gauge on the drawings and not 2'.

The drawings are of .gif format in a zip file and about 1.8mb.
I also have loads of pictures of Thomas Bach on the Llanberis lake railway, which is very similar to Britomart, if you want them, let me know.

Lol yes small footplates are a curse of the narrow gauge, most of the Talyllyn engines are fine, except 4 and 6! Neither of which have any room. Quite often you have to sort of hang out the cab whilst firing them! Which with someone in the middle aswell can be wonderfully fun. No 2 is also too low, by about 6 inches, which when your not really awake at 5.30Am during light up can catch you out!!! (Not a nice way to wake up)

I guess the Quarry Hunslets were even worse though, especially with the cabs on them. It explains why in so many photos of Dinorwic and such like the fireman is either walking alongside or riding on the running plate, rather than stand on the somewhat cramped footplate.
