Tony, I believe you are right, although it's difficult to tell from the few photos I have how much clearance there is between wheels and frame. It appears the suspension is inside the frames. I have seen a clip (on youtube) of one of these little jobs working a train in a whiteout blizzard - it had no difficulty because they may be small but they have very good adhesion - 16,000lbs, the loco weight in working order is the same. TE is 6,984 lbf.

take a look at this site - its for the russian version of the C2 but it gives some nice photos of the frame (and others as well):

http://railways.id.ru/ps/p24/foto.html

click to enlarge photos. . .

The site is in russian altough if you want to know about some of the russian words I put the site through 'Alta Vista - Translate'

Some outher interesting NG stuff on this site . . .

C2 frames

>As an outsidce framed loco of relatively small size, there is vEry little scope for regaugIng to a smaller track.

err - its an inside frame loco

but I think u ment to say:

As an inside framed loco of relatively small size, there is very little scope for regaugIng to a smaller track.

However looking at the russian photos as a guide there does not appear to be too much stopping the frames moving inwards - i.e.

1. Cylinders are not 'back to back' but are bolted to the frames. (I assume there is little between except possibly main steam pipes)

2. Same can be said of the Motion Bracket - bolted to the frame.

3. Foundation ring sits ontop of the frame.

The only comment I would like make is the stability of the narrower frames and wheels - but at least its not like a tank engine with inside frames with all the water flopping about above.

The other option is to rebuild her with outside frames - but this would be much more work, although the final result will be much more stable. . .

I shal look forward to the FR rebuild . .

Am I right in thinking a large amount of similar locos were built for 2ft gauge running also?

Captain,

If I have done this right, there should be a drawing in your pm.

I don't think that there were ever any 2ft gauge versions of these, they were all either 750mm or 762mm (which is foreign for 2'-6")

I have only a poor drawing which gives 2330 over the hand rails which is not much use to you, however I have scanned it in and put the drawing into AutoCAD. This scales as 2051, although this will not be 100% accurate I hope it will be near enough?

I would put the scan up here but I do not know how to do it !!??

So if you look at my fotopic site:-

http://cyprusrailways.fotopic.net/

you can see it there. (I have added a few other dims to the drawing to help)

My comments about her stability on 2ft are mainly to do with the huge height in comparrison with her tiny wheels

Looking at the video clips would support your contention.
Meanwhile, that cab was bugging me so much it's had a major rebuild, yet again.

Most of the boolean cuts were very neat this time. :-?
