How did you get 2 sets of smoke effects coming out of the chimneys? I tried setting up 2 effects once and it killed the engine.

put the file DLG end onto the locomotive in Acitivity Editor, it is the same with all the double fairlies they all have an 'end' file which is invisible in AE but appears in the game.

Eddie,
The fairlie has a very small, "invisible" loco permanently coupled behind the main engine. This is used to place the main chimney smoke and cylinder effects onto the rear chimney and bogies.

The only problem with the second engine is that it is classed as a helper and therefore can only be fired by the AI fireman. Being such a poor fireman myself, this means that whenever I drive a Double Fairlie, it has black smoke out of one chimney and white out of the other.
Having said that, the last time I travelled behind DLG my brother was firing (always nice to blame a brother) and it was blowing such a gale that the bottom end fire kept blowing out, resulting in that chimney belching thick black smoke full of unburnt oil, while the other chimney had nice white steam. That was quite a day. It was Christmas Day, but with no electricity in the district due to the storms, Christmas dinner comprised bacon, eggs and sausages cooked over an open fire in my parent's living room followed by board games by candlelight. There ain't much to do in that part of Wales in winter.

I thought for a moment then youd modelled the double fairlies for KRS - till I realised id replied to it and it was a 6 1/2 year topic bump! Is it really that long since you modelled them Kev!

Even longer! Merddin Emrys was my second ever loco and was released in October 2001. That means that it's 7 1/2 years old.
The picture above, was a fairlie for Railsim. I must have given the picture the same name as the MSTS version as it seems to have replaced it!
Cheers,
Kevin
