Hi Chaps,

Here is a WIP shot of my Sian Cabview. Please let me know what you think, any constructive criticism etc. There are a few bits missing yet, and some parts need surfacing..they appear as grey here. Its maybe 40% finished so far, but progress is slow at the moment so it will be a few weeks yet.

Whaddya think??? The 3D program I use is very basic (and so is this model) but its easy to use; also this is my first attempt. This is not the final viewpoint either, that will be from a more realistic driving position!

Very purple

I like this, there aren't enough steam cab views out there.

:o Nice, are you just going to take a picture of it in the 3d program or what. I honestly dont know what to do once I've built a cab view, im gessing you just line up the view and press print screen.

I explained it on the cabview forum a few weeks back - bit too long to repeat now!! Look at the 'simple 0-6-0 tank cab' thread for the answer!
there aren't enough steam cab views out there.
I dont think there are any 15" steam cabviews at all yet!

Andrew.

This has to be good to prompt me to reply!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WELL DONE.
Question, What software did you model it with? How did you render it?
And you may need to look at the reflectivity of the material used on the cabsides.

Hi Andrew,

I use Shade 7 Designer LE which came free on the front of Personal Computer World last month! Fairly simple to use but cant export shapes other than in .SHD, so cant make rolling stock. Cabs work fine though! Demo of Shade 8 free from: http://downloads.e-frontier.com/us/user/product_13349

Rendering it...I just pressed the button that says 'Render All' :o

The Cabsides...I was going for an enamelled look...might turn reflection down a bit see if that helps

Looking very nice Andy, you've made good progress since the last WIP shot I saw :)

Looks super Andy, and it fills a big gap in MSTS material. I was actually lucky enough to have a cab ride on Sian when she was based at Kirklees-I can't remember much about the layout of controls, though I'm fairly sure the pipework didn't cut across the windows like that. Apart from that, however, it's great-I'm really looking forward to the finished product! :D

Thanks Gents!
Muz - The injector steam pipes look right according to the photos I have. In my book there is a picture taken when they have had the tender off (an absolute godsend), the quality of which matches other pics that were taken in 1975, maybe the pipes have been modified since? I assume the right hand one curves down to give a better view, in reality a much smoother curve than on the model though...cant do curved pipes yet!

In case anyone is wondering the dalek thingummy on the bottom right is the train brake, the lever above it the loco brake.

UPDATE:

This is it folks...just working on getting the controls to work in the sim. 'Bout 50% there now.
