Kevin,

I've just got back from my holidays which is why I didn't say that you have produced a marvellous looking engine before, but, That looks marvellous

Just a small update. Progress has been a little slow of late, but picture shows the model almost complete (though there is still some small details to add).

It now has fully working inside motion ( with thanks to Portbury for the advice, here)

Time for a bit of texturing, I think.

Cheers,
Kevin

Looks fantastic, you've really gone that extra mile, I mean the detail on those couplers and inside motion etc, this will be an absolute stunner of a model.

An early texture test! What is the finished article going to be like? It seems stupidly churlish to suggest that this could be improved in any way, but I think that the cylinder lagging is too round - all the pictures I have seen show something either hexagonal or octagonal.

Thanks for the comments, Andrew.

Yes, I would agree about the your cylinder comment. Unfortunatley, canvas has the effect of automatically smoothing off objects when applying textures and I haven't compensated for it. I'll do this when I apply the proper textures to the cylynders

This is a picture of the cylinder with the smoothing turned off to give an idea of how I modelled it.

Will have a look at some pictures today and see if I need to make it less round. Could do with saving some polys !!

Cheers,
Kevin

Kevin, your "early texture test" is proably better than the finished sets I've applied to most of my models! This is going to be one of the best NG models yet released for MSTS :D

Thanks again for the comments :)

The model uses quite a few polys, I'm afraid. Its about 11,500 at the moment (runs away and hides head in shame). I haven't culled any hidden polys yet, but still want to add a little bit more detail so I think the above figure will be the final one. Probably won't add a crew or much cab detail because of this. It does run fine on my old crock of a computer so should be ok for most people. In comparison, my Ivatt 2-6-2t model had about 13,500 polys and have had no complaints about it.

I don't suppose the texturing will look too much different when its finished but there are some areas I'm not happy with and want to redo.

Cheers,
Kevin
