Joan, Michael and Railway Queen

Post by Nvincer »

Hi All,

I had nearly completed a model of the Rhyl Minature Railway's Steam Locomotive 'Joan' when I found links to two other locomotives on display at James Pringle Weavers. I believe that 'Michael' is identical to 'Joan' but I am not sure about 'Railway Queen'. Does anyone know if they are all identical triplets and if there are any further identical locos which I have missed?

Ben

P.S. I have noticed a slight error on the tender (a.k.a. it's not to that design any more - will fix!!!)

Wow they are wonderful!

Of course you could paint it green and call it John as well! (like the one that's now at Evesham)

There's one called 'Billie' somewhere too, up for sale in Margate i think.

I think one would look very nice on my miniature line!

The locos are all of the same design, being developed for the Rhyl line, for a full history visit

Well done mate those are wonderful! Can we have a version with smoke deflectors and slanted cab windows as per picture? Makes it look like a King Arthur for us Southern people!

ps you can buy that one in the b/w picture! Its on sale from Preston Steam Services

I guess Billie, the Margate loco was red as well, here's another picture I've found, of it in current stored condition.

Though in the black and white picture with the deflectors on, it does look liek Andrew states an N15, and I reckon by the sahed in the photo its in some sort of green livery. I have a miniature Railways book at home I'll try and find some more info out.

there all pritty much identical as built apart from joan which has a diffrent tender to the rest. but like the little giants there owners allways tried to make them look like other engines by adding smoke deflectors.

I trust this is one Barnes variation that you don't want to represent!

This is Railway Queen as it ran at Belle Vue (Manchester) from 1964-1971, when the miniature railway there was known as the 'Santa fe Railroad' . They even had the bad taste to apply these features to Synolda! The locos were returned to normal condition in 1971

<IMG width="566" height="244" SRC="http://www.atomic-album.com/showPic.php ... esmods.jpg">

The line cloased in 1977. Railway Queen carried a green and yellow livery here, and later a plain blue livery which must have looked good on this loco. Joan ran here as well, the two barnes locos arrivig here after Rhyl temprorarily closed in the 1960s.

There is a small amount about Billie and the DMR in the Kent Narrow Gague book. its nice to see the loco is in one (sort of) piece.
any ideas as to who she now owned by and wheater or not she will every return to steam.

Models looking great Ben - amazing comparing to your first efforts! One question though - can we please have better axleboxes on the tender? I've got loads of time off school at the moment (study leave) so if you want to send the tender accross I'll have a play around.

I found a few more pics in a quick tap into google - http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=Rhy ... rch+Images is the link

Can we please have a John version - pretty please? :D
