A better set of textures would also make a world of difference. Yes, there's a lot to do, but nothing that can't be done...

I'll see what I can do but after the comments that have already been made it has rather 'knocked the stuffing out of the project' for me. I will hopefully finish it sometime though

Thanks William

Might be a few weeks before I start on it again though....

Ben,
sorry if my criticisms have put you off, but I didn't mean them to. I was only trying to constructively make observations to help you produce a better model.
I'm delighted that you are building this engine for MSTS, as I say she is one of my favourite 15" gauge engines. But for this same reson I'm just keen to see her done right! Belive me, I know how frustrating TSM is, and in all honesty I probably couldn't make models as good as yours yet. (So technically I should have shut up long ago!) But as I say, I'm just trying to give you some pointers so we can all enjoy a better end product. :D

It was not your criticisms which put me off because at least you pointed me in a direction which could be improved (proportions) it was the stupid

"No offence, but what is it meant to be?"

that really puts me off a bit because this is just 'having a go at the project and my modelling "skills"' not constructive criticism which could really help this loco.

I know and look at my Romney locos - they would never have got to where they are now without forum input.

Not trying to start a war here - Just stating a point.

Didn't mean to add any offence from my 'what is it meant to be?' question, just nowhere in the topic was it stated what it was, and if someone plonks a green tank engine in front of you, you want to keep your bases covered before thinking its something else ;). Not intending to have a go at your modelling skills, better than anything I could muster ( hence you don't see me building locos ;))

Still, have to agree with Muztrem, the model does unfortunately seem to be quite out of proportion..but hopefully that can be rectified.

I have some drawings for other R&ER locos if you are interested?

But it is in a thread entitled Ratty and BVR plans and there is only one tank which looks like that (but I suppose it is an old model! :D :D )

Anyway point accepted and im sorry for anything that I have said as I did rather 'fly off the handle'

Hopefully and I need to add new textures and detailing.

Its odd that it does look out of proportion, my advice would be to keep going...

looking at the photos and the model id agree that its a bit narrow. Even though youve done it to the drawings, try making the chimmney and bit thicker aswell, that could help, drawbard gear and clutter on the running boards will make it look a lot shorter and therefore wider aswell.

Looking still further I think the problem is the tanks, they arnt wide enough. Looking at the photo of the engine the tanks are fairly wide, then end profile of them being almost squarish in appearance. Why dont you try making yours a bit wider, methinks it will help.

Thanks Chris. I think that the problem has been the fact that I have only used the side view in TSM and done the front (width) from view in front of me. I will alter all of the things you mentioned chimney etc. when I go back and take a look at the width.

To be fair Murray your citicisms were taken a little to far on this occasion, and considering the state that the Hudson Hunslets are in I don't really think you can talk (I know you are building from drawings). And Ben is a junior modeller still, and you've never built a steam loco in TSM so don't know how hard it is - give him a break

I didn't mean to offend Ben (I think it's great so far), I don't think I did but just appologising if I did!

But they were constructive criticisms. My only aim was to help Ben.
JonPotter wrote:considering the state that the Hudson Hunslets are in I don't really think you can talk
Just because I can't build a decent model dosn't mean I can't use my vocal chords
Seriosly though, I always appreciate constructive criticsm of my models as it helps me see where I'm going wrong. As I say, I'm only trying to help.
JonPotter wrote:you've never built a steam loco in TSM so don't know how hard it is - give him a break
No, but using the program generally has given me some idea of how frustrating it is generally. And as I say, I am keen to see this engine done right. If I can help Ben make a better model is that not better for everyone?

I think that constructive criticism is good - as I said look at my Romney locos - they would never have got to where they are without it!!!!
JonPotter wrote:considering the state that the Hudson Hunslets are in I don't really think you can talk
Don't forget Jon that everyone who creates a model is trying to 'fill a gap in the market'. My opinion is if "whoever" doesn't like my work then don't download it - I always put my best into my work and if it is still not good enough for "whoever" then don't download it and go and find something that "whoever" is looking for!!!
MuzTrem wrote:Seriosly though, I always appreciate constructive criticsm of my models as it helps me see where I'm going wrong. As I say, I'm only trying to help
I think that it is the only way that models inprove
JonPotter wrote:you've never built a steam loco in TSM so don't know how hard it is - give him a break
They are very detailed but you can also get some complicated diesel locos - the better the better but everyone is learning very second that they are using TSM
MuzTrem wrote:No, but using the program generally has given me some idea of how frustrating it is generally. And as I say, I am keen to see this engine done right.
I can understand what you mean and I am open to constructive criticism
MuzTrem wrote:If I can help Ben make a better model is that not better for everyone?
Exactly!!!

These are just my opinions but please, please please can we just stop 'arguing' because it isn't creating a very good atmosphere is it now!!! :D :D :D
